Probably wanted to get people talking about it.Odd they made a big announcement at SDCC for something that doesn't have a greenlight.
Also:
“We have nothing actually planned so this isn't a spoiler, but that was definitely the promise of setting it in that time period.”
So, they want to set the show in the 25th century post-PIC, but they don’t even know what the show is actually about, and it’s not greenlit yet. Huh. Sounds likea show that’s not actually going to happenStar Trek Legacy.
On the other hand, having two shows about the Enterprise is brand confusion, and also Legacy is not and never has been a project actually in the works, which puts a bit of a damper on it. Which is probably for the best, because Terry Matalas has shown he can't make anything but nostalgia bait and once forced to turn it into an actual show it could never match all the dreams people have come up with.I still think it's Alex Kurtzman trying to save his job with regards to the incoming Ellison management.
It's his way of showing the Ellisons that he can make Trek on an ultra-tight budget, if need be. It's a bullet in the chamber.
Legacy has a much better chance of happening than this new show:
- Legacy has the Enterprise.
- It's closer to traditional Trek than this new show (therefore, it's in Paramount's comfort zone.)

It is?Strange New Worlds is nearing the end of its lifespan.
It is?Season three hasn’t even premiered yet. They’ll apparently start shooting season four soon and at NYCC there was talk about season five. And who’s to say now what will come after that?
Well, as far as I’m concerned, Discovery sucked balls though and I can’t even believe it made it to year five while the writing never improved even marginally. Whereas Strange New Worlds is pretty strong and well written.
