Because "fan" is a pasteurized abbreviated term for its root word: "fanatic".

And ...
According to Merriam-Webster, a fanatic is a person who is excessively enthusiastic or devoted to a cause, interest, or activity. The term can be used to describe someone who is extremely devoted to a controversial matter, such as religion or politics, or someone who is very enthusiastic about a sport or activity.

The word fanatic comes from the Latin word fanaticus, which means "of a temple" and "enthusiastic, inspired". The word's original meaning was "frantic, frenzied, mad", which came from the idea that people who behaved in this way were possessed by a deity. This meaning is now obsolete.

Synonyms of fanatic include:
extremist, activist, militant, zealot, bigot, and hothead.

Russell Wilson has an injury and might not play in the opener. Would be kind of funny if Fields plays lights out and keeps the job.

I looked at the story online and I had to laugh because the over under now favors Pittsburgh instead of the Falcons.
So, the betting people seem to think Fields will do a better job than Russell.

Jordan Love expected to miss multiple weeks with an MCL sprain. More tests being taken to make sure. They're hoping he'll only miss 3-4 weeks.

The Malik Willis era begins.

I have no idea who Love's backup last year, but I imagine fans will be clamoring for him after next week.

That was Sean Clifford, a rookie who barely played. Now he'll get called up from the practice squad to be Willis' backup.

Love dodged a Bullet it sounds like. Could have been a lot worse but he might be able to play again this season.

That field was really bad last night. Goodell wants to have so many of these international games, but these fields need to be better. Or does the NFL not care about Player Safety even though I'm always being told that they do.

Banging the safety drum has always been nothing more than a feel-good PR box to check, complete with lame-ass mandatory safety training. Lots of companies do it, especially in manufacturing and construction. Insurance companies and corporate legal staff probably even demand it for liability purposes. It likely has little bearing on reality. But when bad shit happens (and it always does), they simply shrug and say, “We told everyone to be safe. They just didn’t listen to us!”

The players have complained that these out-of-country stadiums are soccer fields that are meant for speed and agility, not large guys constantly sprinting and stopping and hitting each other.

I'm not on Twitter, but I did see JJ Watt had a nice thread talking about the difference between a football field and soccer field. It was pretty informative and goes to what you are saying about large guys hitting each other.

Money and Gambling, which I guess go hand in hand but feel like 2 separate monsters.

And it wasn't even that long ago that the NFL tried to act like it wanted nothing to do with gambling. Tony Romo couldn't hold his fantasy football or football card or something show at a casino because of gambling.

However, what does everyone think the point of the injury report is?

I wonder what impact lowering the value of field goals to two points, would have on the NFL?

Steelers got stopped on a first and ten run but the Falcons thought it was fourth down and were celebrating.

Kirk Cousins is a beat slow, so far. Everything is coming out just a little late. Interesting if it ends up being a long term issue.
