Would I prefer it? Yes, I think K2 could be a nice addition. It is not a requirement.
And, thinking more on it, I think many fans will find it tiresome because it will become an origin story that won't live up to the hype or imaginations of several fans.
I thought it had already been confirmed back when they first started talking about the story for Season 1 that K-2SO would be in Season 2. They've said it leads right up to at least a few days before the start of Rogue One, so K2 is pretty much going to have to be in it since it seemed pretty clear from the movie they had been working for a while by then.
I guess they could just keep him off screen the whole time, but that would just end up being awkward, and would piss off the fans who are looking forward to seeing him. And we've already seen them do fully CGI characters on the live action Star Wars shows, so that shouldn't be problem when it comes to K2. The only limiting factor might be Alan Tudyk's availability, but if worse comes to worse, they could always have some else do the motion capture for him, and just not have him talk.
