I love how flip floppy people are being now. For the last while they'd all turned on Feige (ingrates) and been all "Fire him and bring back Ike Perlmutter!" and now they're all "Oh he was nice to Hugh Jackman! I love him!"

Again, you're using absolutes for everyone when they're not inherently true.

For one, I never turned on Feige and I've always been supportive of him.

And I don't think anyone around here (even the naysayers of the MCU) want Ike Perlmutter back.

So please stop that nonsense.

Who wanted Ike back?

I'm looking for answers that isn't "dumb crazies", by the way.

There was a brief moment where, when the MCU was at it's longest string of disappointments, around the end of 2023, And Ike had been fired earlier that year (and sidelined long before that), the idea emerged that his sexist/racist "guidance" had actually helped the MCU rather than handicapping it (in a know your audience's biases kind of way).

Emerged where?

And just a reminder this was the guy who didn't want 'Black Panther' ($1.3 Billion BO) and 'Captain Marvel' ($1.1 Billion BO) made.

I didn't say it was a correct idea. And I don't have any links to back it up. it's just a vibe I got off the zeitgeist at the time.

Did this vibe come from YouTube videos with the word "woke" in the title? ;)

I don't understand why there has not been a greater outcry over the use of the term woke as a criticism. Woke is meant to be a complimentary term about being aware of racism and inequity which in this century has been expanded to be an awareness of a variety of issues. It was created as a positive term that has now been corrupted by the conservative, primarily white, forces.

My point here being, and I know you were making a joke, is that it struck me that woke is used more often now as a pejorative term than as a positive one.

Because words change.
Like "nice" used to mean "foolish" and "bully" used to mean "lover". Completely opposite to what they mean now. Simply add "woke" to that list.

That's part of right-wing rhetoric. They co-opt good terms and turn them into attacks. Like the recent use of "DEI hire" as a pejorative. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are objectively good things. DEI just means removing systemic biases and allowing qualified people to earn jobs fairly without being discriminated against for their identity. But the right has twisted it with the insinuation that it means someone unqualified who was promoted as a token diversity hire, because they assume nobody but a white male could actually deserve a good job. (Which is exactly the same way they twisted "affirmative action" before.)

People forget that "fake news" started as a term used by left-wing critics of Trump's false claims. But Trump stole the term and turned it around to discredit truthful reports about his actions and policies. This is a recurring, deliberate rhetorical tactic they use. They poison good terms by using them negatively, shaping the discourse the way they want it.

Or Sense and Sensibility, terms that have basically switched meanings since Jane Austin wrote her novel.

In terms of "woke" though, this is a term that has been specifically co-opted by a certain group of conservative pundits. The word was intentionally used in a way so its meaning could become a slur in casual conversation. It didn't naturally evolve that way.

Although I would submit that "woke" hasn't actually changed meaning. It still means culturally progressive and inclusive; it's just that the term is used as an attack by people who think progressiveness and inclusion are bad things. A lot of the things the extreme right uses as insults actually look pretty good to moderates and progressives. Like how they're now trying to "smear" Governor Tim Walz for actions like ensuring schoolchildren get good meals and schoolgirls get free access to essential hygiene products, which is making everyone else go "Hey, that actually sounds great."

I think we just need to stop letting them define the terms. If someone called my writing woke, I'd say, "Hell yeah, I'm woke, thanks for noticing." Woke means awake, aware, in touch with reality and truth. I think that's something to be proud of. What I want to say to people like that is, "If your leaders are teaching you that it's a bad thing to be awake to the truth, you need to ask yourself what truths they don't want you to know about."
