That's what you said in the first sentence of the quoted paragraph. I was specifically addressing "actual episodes might be different" in the second sentence, saying that part seems unlikely.

However, I have to rethink that after doing some research. Apparently, Samuel J. Battle of the NYPD became the first African-American parole commissioner in 1941. It's not the same as being a full-on police commissioner, but it goes to show that it's not out of the question that there could be people of color in positions of authority in a '40s setting despite the presence of systemic discrimination. I doubt they'll go that route, but I concede that it's not impossible.

Funny, to me he sounds like Jensen Ackles. I don't hear Conroy at all in that voice.

Yeah, not exactly period, but at least they looked 20th Century. But this a show with what looks like regular TV broadcasts.

I only watched the first episode so far, but I really enjoyed it.
The period setting put a nice limit on the kind of high tech stuff we saw Batman using, which is kinda nice.
Damn, The Penguin is pretty ruthless.
Making Barbara a lawyer is a pretty big change, but it's also a nice way to get her more involved in things before she becomes Batgirl.
So far I'm really liking the whole cast. When I saw the first trailers and clips Hamish Linklater sounded like he was just imitating Conroy, but seeing a full episode now he is putting more of his spin on it.
Is Bullock usually dirty in other versions? I thought he was usually an asshole, but also one of the few cops who wasn't corrupt.

Barbara was the assistant DA in Filmation's 1977 The New Adventures of Batman, although that never served any story purpose beyond giving her an excuse to be standing around in the Commissioner’s office.

Is Bullock usually dirty in other versions? I thought he was usually an asshole, but also one of the few cops who wasn't corrupt.

In the original continuity, he started out as a corrupt cop, but once he became a popular character, he reformed and became one of the good guys. Post-Crisis, he had a bad reputation but was honest in reality.

I just finished it. Honestly, it's fine. There's no specifically bad aspect to point to. But it really doesn't stand out relatively to all the other million Batman projects at all.

I'm only a couple episodes in, but this is exactly what I was hoping for. I love period-inspired pieces, and this has a bit more of a gritty edge than the 90s animated series, which happens to be my favorite depiction of Batman in any media.
