Judas Priest! The James B. Sikking appreciation thread

Rowdy Roddy McDowall

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Long overdue, yet better late than never. He passed away last Saturday at the age of 90.

My brother and I are rerunning a few of the key Howard Hunter HILL STREET BLUES moments in his honor.

A favorite actor of Peter Hyams, their last collaboration was NARROW MARGIN. Ironically, Sikking's hit-man character ended up with substantially more screen time than usual, while having barely one scene with actual dialogue.

Also don't forget Cop Rock!

(I know a lot of people are trying to do exactly that, but hey, it was fun. )
My allergies to Barbara Bosson forced me to give it up after episode two.....not knowing that Sikking apparently reprised Hunter sometime during the run. Did you see him there?

Hunter was my dad's favorite Hill St character. He said he reminded him of a lot of the NYSP Troopers he worked with.

In the early seasons of HSB, at least, there was actually kind of a Kirk/Spock/McCoy relationship between Furillo, Hunter and Goldblum. Just as Kirk had Spock representing logic and McCoy representing emotion. Furillo had Hunter representing traditional policing and Goldblum a more humanistic approach.

I never expected to see Hunter and Spock compared with each other in any way.

Hunter over the years was an honorable antagonist, like 12 ANGRY MEN's E.G. Marshall, or a much more sympathetic Frank Burns...depending on specific plots each week. He often surprised us. I see some more obvious Goldblume/McCoy similarities in your comparisons. Being a huge Hunter fan, I still concede Henry won 70 percent of their arguments....while Henry's friendship with Furillo is nearly as strong as Kirk and Spock's.

Yeah, it's not a 1-1 comparison, more of a "Main character has two best friends/trusted advisors who happen to be opposite numbers to each other."

Great cameo on Cop Rock. The all singing morning briefing breaks up and the officers can be seen filing past Lt.Hunter who is cleaning his pipe...(not a euphemism!):lol:Maybe it’s on YouTube.

Plus he was a member of the magnificent seven.Granted it was in one of the lesser sequels but still.

I'm trying to find just one theatrical SEVEN film in which four of them DON'T kick the bucket. BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS doesn't count.

Until now, my largest achievement here has been a mixed blessing.....the ''Unnecessary Remake of the week'' thread which will sadly outlive our Googoled grandchildren. Thank you, G-Man. This photo gives me renewed vigor in the goldarned vertical drumsticks and THEN some.
