What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Yesterday, our cat ate a bug and then vomited it up into her litter box.

I liked that better than Picard Season 2.
If that's how you really felt, why did you sit through all 10 episodes? Who wants to voluntarily put themselves through Medieval Torture?

Because it's Star Trek. It's what we do. (Hell, I've seen Into Darkness AND The Alternative Factor more than once.)
Not liking an episode is one thing. But an entire season or series? Personally, after a certain point, I'll say, "This isn't for me" and not watch.

Entertainment should be like food? Why would I want to keep eating something I know I don't like? That's crazy.

I hate liver. I won't go out of my way to eat it every week, 10 weeks straight.

Nemesis was mind-numbing, dull, and depressing. It has a few moments, but not enough to save it. If they put in all the deleted scenes and cut all the action sequences down by half, then they might've had something.
Unfortunately the Blu-ray has a limited selection of the scenes known to be shot, in SD to boot. If that footage somehow got re-transfered, it could be an awesome fan edit.
Because I believe in the concept of Yin-Yang (nothing's 100% one thing or 100% the other), I will say something good about Nemesis. I love the soundtrack. It's some of Jerry Goldsmith's best work. I just wish it was paired with a better film.

I only watched the DVD through once or twice, but would put the disc in and put this scene on repeat before I managed to track down the expanded soundtrack.

I may have employed a bit of hyperbole, there…

:shifty:

I thought Seasons 1 and 3 both started off really well, especially Season 1.

Unfortunately (for me) I think the show shit the bed at the end of both seasons.

I thought Season 2 was a shit show from Episode 1. What are you going to do?

I wanted Picard to be good. TNG is my favorite series (okay, maybe tied with Voyager). I just don’t think it was.

That does require the Enterprise to have been refit back and forth a couple of times. I don’t actually have a problem with that, though many undoubtedly will.
Yes and Saavik had major plastic surgery between movies II and III. And Ziyal too, every few months.

Or maybe it's just a TV show played by actors in pretend sets instead of historical documents and maybe we'll learn to suspend our disbelief. Maybe.

We do have an awful habit of watching any old rope with the Star Trek logo, I don't know if it's healthy or not. "Glutton for Punishment" as my old man used to say.

I do try an glean some enjoyment from somewhere, though. It seems that Picard S2 is universally loathed but I thought the Confederacy stuff was interesting, at least. And when things don't make sense on screen, try and make it work in your head with your own explanation.

Sometimes you can polish a turd...if its imaginary

It's not even remotely healthy. I stopped watching four Star Trek shows during first-run (VOY, ENT, LD, and SNW) and I don't regret it. As far as here goes, I spared myself the Early-2000s ENT Forum Experience. I consider that to be a blessing.

Because even shitty Star Trek is more entertaining than half the crap on TV.

Plus, I'm a MST3K fan. I can watch something absolutely horrible and still entertain myself over just how bad it is.
I totally get that.

Great example: a few months ago, my nephew brought THE ROOM to watch. I had never seen it, but heard it was awful. (Spoiler alert: it's not as bad you may have heard. It's worse.) He, my niece, and I watched it. And it was one of the most fun and awesome viewing experiences I have ever had. Not only because it was time spent with two of my favorite people in the world, but we had so much fun just ripping into that movie. The movie was terrible, but sharing in the terribleness was a FUN experience.

I'm also on Team "Nemesis is better than PIC season 3". It's better than ALL of PIC, imo. (And no, I'm not really a fan of Nemesis. Putting things mildly here.) I wish they had just ended TNG and Jean-Luc's story with Nemesis and left it at that.

I love this story. A great bad movie can be more enjoyable than the greatest masterpiece ever put to film.

At least a few times a year, my wife and I will have an "Asylum Night." If you don't know what The Asylum is, they're a film studio that makes cheap knockoffs of Hollywood blockbusters. They'll usually star one washed-up B-list actor, followed by a bunch of nobodies. The films are horrible. They're cheesey. The acting is poor, and the writing is even worse. Plus, VFX are video game-level or worse. But hell if they're not fun to watch after a couple cocktails!

My best friend seems to be the only pro-PICARD voter in the general universe I'm aware of.

My unpopular opinion is that Nemesis is a good movie. I watched the 4k disc the other night and got swept away by it. I always loved this film and remember I was ecstatic when I saw it opening night in a nearly empty theater. The cinematography is excellent and the sound design is muscular. Goldsmith's action licks are incredible for one of his final scores.

It's not perfect, but no Trek movie is.
