They haven't made anything good since 'Endgame', so it does make you wonder how much they actually had to do with the success of it and 'Infinity War'.

??? They did Arrested Development, Community, and my favorite MCU movie prior to that and have kind of laid low on streaming service productions since--so I am pretty confident in their abilities.

It would surprise me if the Secret Wars movie was taken from that one, and not the 2015 one, since it was the '15 one that dealt with the multiverse. I know they haven't done direct adaptations, but they still tend to at least take some inspiration from the book they get the titles from, and the multiverse mashup 2015 series would make more sense as the inspiration for the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga than the original.

I don't get how its "desperate" to rehire some of the most successful directors to ever work on the MCU. If the Russo's want to do it, and Disney/Marvel don't have anyone penciled in for it right now, why would they not hire people with a proven track record, and apparent passion for the work, to do the job?

I would want to hear their pitch and see what it would cost. Past performance means jack shit to me. Put up your idea and don't skate on your past.

The best indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour. The Russo's have made some great films and television series. They love Marvel comics. They should have a bigger role in the MCU than just making the occasional movie. Feige needs help with quality control and editorial? Why not them?

My point is that I won't just take them in if they don't have a credible idea. You can't just say "Give me a blank check because Infinity War."

No, fuck that noise. Give me a plan first and I'll look at you and consider it. Not a single direct gets a pass from me for past behavior alone. I need what you want to do now.

When creators have made a half dozen things that I love and hold special to my heart then I'm willing to follow them for future endeavors. I'm the type of person who goes to see movies for who wrote and directed them rather than who is starring in them--and the Russo's have earned my trust.

Over the years, Spielberg went from being a must see to somebody I wait on. A similar thing happened with Shyamalan and Scorcese for me. I'm still going to see whatever Del Toro's new movie is, or Wes Anderson's new movie and I will do that until they disappoint me a couple of times.

Now I'm curious. What factors do you take into account when going to see a movie? If it is not the writer or director then what's your criteria? For non-franchise fare or known characters/stories, of course. What makes you go to a movie on opening night?

Subject matter.

ETA: quick example-I went to see Lord of the Rings Return of the King with my dad. One of the trailers featured a movie I knew next nothing about, "The Chronicles of Riddick." At the time I knew nothing of Pitch Black, Vin Disel, or David Thwoy. I didn't know who Riddick was, or why I should care about this character. The story idea/subject matter was of a scifi adventure.

I decided to see it.

Tolkien: didn't know the actor, didn't know the director. Wife and I went and saw it due to a love of the Professor and his work.

Fireproof: yes, I did know Kirk Cameron growing up with Growing Pains but the film was about marriage, and that was a subject I often researched in undergrad and grad school. So, I went.
