Octopussy, worst Moore Bond?

Rocket plane at beginning cool, & fake alligator ok, but rest of it just didn't match up with the other Moore classics. The idea to film in India was good, & lispy bad guy was passable, but not in league with other notable baddies, ( Christopher Lee for one). Tall Indian tough guy again ok, but not comparable to Jaws. Which seems to be the pattern with this movie, each aspect not up to par with other Moore efforts. But then, it's just my 2 cents.

& if this was Moore's worst, which was better between it & Your Majesty's Secrtet Service. I'd think Lazenby's one outing was better.

Not a big moore fan to begin with(not the actor himself, just the way his movies went). I thought Octopussy was pretty good. View to a kill and Moonraker are the ones I can't stand.

Octopussy is lightweight fluff - both Man With The Golden Gun (despite a career-best Christopher Lee) and A View To A Kill (despite a Christopher Walken who's having way more fun than the audience) are both far inferior pieces of shit

View to a Kill was easily the worst Moore film (as well as the worst Bond film overall, until Die Another Day), though Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun are pretty good contenders as well.

What's the one where he's mixed up with some 15 year old kid?

I think that's the film where he was talking to the Bond Girl on the set and then suddenly realised that she was actually the bond girl's mother...

The India stuff was pretty campy, but I liked the Berlin stuff (Bond vs Russians always a plus in my book.) Octopussy sort of falls in the middle of my Moore ratings.

Best to worst:

For Your Eyes Only
The Spy who Loved Me
The Man with the Golden Gun
Octopussy
Live and Let Die
Moonraker
A View to a Kill

I find Octopussy to be a very solid film, around the middle of the pack as far as the entire franchise goes. It's much better than both A View To A Kill and Moonraker. I'd also rate it above Live and Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun. I thought Louis Jourdan as Kamal Khan was great.

& if this was Moore's worst, which was better between it & Your Majesty's Secrtet Service. I'd think Lazenby's one outing was better.

OHMSS is the best Bond film of all. Only Goldfinger really comes close.

I like Octopussy, it's got a nice Cold War theme, and they at least pair Moore with a woman young enough to be his daughter rather than his grand daughter. IMO Octopussy is much better than Moore's outings either side, FYEO and AVTAK.

Here's how I rank them on this March day:

The Spy Who Loved Me
A View to a Kill
Octopussy
For Your Eyes Only
Moonraker
Live and Let Die
The Man with the Golden Gun

Octopussy is played for equal parts fun and drama, and it gets the balance right most of the time. There's a couple of things I'd like to change about it, but on the whole, it is one of the best action movies out there.

Interesting, all divergent views so far. I thought even the theme song for Octopussy was so so. Live & let die was an awesome themesong. Stunts in Octopussy were lame compared to the world record boat jump in Let Die.

& Dare I say the Bond girls were also subpar? Oh boy, I may catch heat for that, but Barbara Bach smokes the lead is Octopussy, so do Goldeneye girls & Talisa Soto & Maryam d'Abo

I'm not sure how to go about establishing which was the worst among seven of the most crap movies I've ever had the misfortune to watch. There are perhaps two sequences in the lot I can sit through without cringing. Otherwise? Garbage. But to each their own.

OHMSS is the best Bond film of all.
Agreed. I also agree that Goldfinger is one of its very few competitors. Must be the Avengers connection. :D

Just the way Louis Jourdan pronounces the the title character's name makes me bust a gut every time -- and not because of the double entendre.

Octopussy for me suffers from terminal mediocrity. It doesn't really succeed spectacularly at anything, but on the other hand doesn't fail spectacularly either. Moonraker and A View To A Kill were failures as well, but they were train wrecks. So bad that you couldn't look away. Octopussy was just boring.

Absolutely. All the Moore films were poor, compared to Connery and Brosnan. Dalton's films, I dunno. I'll think about it.

Octopussy is the worst, if only because, as mentioned, it's boring. I'm not sure I've ever watched it all the way through. I have seen it all, but it's not engaging.

It almost has a made-for-t.v. quality to it. I mean, there's nothing spectacular about it...the most memorable bits are the title character's name and Bond dressed as a clown. The island of women is too much into self-satire terrritory.

There are some nice bits.

Stephen Berkov's russian general (a better villain than Kamel Khan).

Twin knife throwers.

The opening.
