I recently rejoined TrekBBS after an absence of many years. Thanks, TBonz, for reinstating me without breaking me down to a Yeoman.

Back in ancient times, before the invention of YouTube, just seeing screen caps posted on a website was huge. And then...high definition screen caps! Be still, my beating heart.

I took those screen caps and put them together, comic book style, into a sequence. I recently found my file of Star Trek sequences. They still hold up in this new fangled, video file age. I want to post them here, a few at a time. Some are collages. Most are screen caps run in order. All tell a story.

Hi,

Posting pictures with no real discussion content was dicey to start, but I was willing to let it go if they generated a discussion. So far, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Also, posting more than twice in a row is considered spamming, although I'm pretty sure that wasn't your intent.

So I'll let this stay open a little while longer to see if any discussion follows. If it does then great. If not, then I'll close it.

In any event, please don't post multiple times in a row. Let someone respond before posting again.

'Ancient times'?
Ancient times was when you used software to split your screencap into parts—which were essentially text files—before uploading it to alt.binaries.startrek on your ISP's newsgroup server...where others could download those parts before recombining them back into the original image.

I remember the "not more than twice in a row" rule, but I had no idea about picture threads, one way or another. At least I wasn't posting pictures of cats.

This sequence says goodbye, although as we know, no one is ever dead in Star Trek.

Personally, I was loving this thread. It was just nice to slow down for a minute and take a trip down memory lane, when things like the Photo Novels were all we had.

@BillJ Yeah, me too.
Plus it's always interesting to see the same sequence from two different episodes, like in post #6 above. The degradation (seemingly) from reusing the elements is very noticeable.

To add to the discussion, I'd like to say it's refreshing to see some frames of the original effects of the original series.

The Blu-rays are relatively inexpensive, and have both versions.

1001001, I thought my post was the simplest reaction. It was a matter-of-fact one, trying to stay within board rules. I'm not a wave maker, especially when it comes to something this light-hearted. There was no emotion in my decision, either in real time or on the board. I hadn't seen a rash of comments nor did I expect them. I started this thread as a lark and it could go away just as easily.

You are right, though. Let's leave the decision up to the community. It doesn't have to be mine. I have enough sequences that I could easily keep this up for a month or two. Plus, I've gotten back to making new ones. The first of the two Enterprise orbit sequences, the one around the light blue planet, is new. It took a couple of hours of work. The first frame is the title card for the episode, Wink Of An Eye. I had to rebuild it, using much of the second frame. When the graphics were laid in, everything changed, in color, brightness, contrast and sharpness. After I posted it, I realized the planet part of the two frames was identical. That shouldn't be. The planet should be moving from right to left over the sequence and rotating. I will redo it to make that happen. I've had to perform image tweaks for a lot of these sequences. I did a minor fix-it on the other Enterprise orbit sequence. A piece of the planet shown through the secondary hull.

So let's do a reboot. (That never happens in Trek.) This thread was never meant to be anything more than a frivolous stop-off, something to bring a smile to your face, Dear members, if you see something you enjoy, please let us know. I'll also take requests. I'd love to keep posting these.

If it's really Afternoon Delight, you may need to secretly sex it up in some way. But with Kirk around, that's inevitable. But to me it always looked like Enterprise-D was a top-heavy CD player in need of proper balance.
