VARIETY: Paramount-Skydance merger collapsed in the final moments, and will lead to layoffs and austerity measures

At 52, generally speaking, Star Trek is an old friend. The longest continuous relationship I’ve had in my life. Movies are a friend you see every once-in-a-while. The TV series are friends who have claimed your couch as their bed and eat your food.

I simply find TV series Trek a chore. Of course, YMMV.
I feel similar, that more TV shows means more work. At this stage of life I'm not convinced this is a good thing.

I think I would be more interested in current TV Trek, if it all wasn’t just greatest hits of what came before. As long as nostalgia porn is all CBS is producing, I’d much rather have it in a more compact form factor.

 I genuinely love this answer.

Vs. going to the theater with family, enjoying food, and time with them regardless of the film shown. Like Nemesis. I went with friends and we talked about the movie afterwards and had a good time.

Maybe that's the big difference I was missing. I stopped caring about a theatre experience outside of my house years ago!

I think I'd be more engaged if I had someone to share it with.

I watch with my wife. It is still an eye-rolling struggle for me. It is sad that I’m to the point that I’d rather watch murder porn than Star Trek.

My wife has limited to no interest in science fiction and usually watches fantasy, like Carnival Row.

So, save for here, there are few people who I share with. But, it's an eye rolling struggle with some fans ;)

Yeah, my wife is a big Trekkie too. It’s a lot more fun, having someone to watch the shows and go to conventions with.

We’re in Season 6 of our rewatch of Voyager right now, and ready for SNW to start up again.

:techman:

And so it begins. . . Paramount Global has purged the online archives of Comedy Central, TV Land, CMT and MTV News as a cost saving measure.
A note on their website says subscribe to Paramount+ to stay updated on their latest content.
No! No!!!!! Not MTV News!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who'll properly inform us now? And no more MTV movie awards!!!!!!

Take me to Detroit and get it over with.

On the other hand, after a run over at (HBO) Max, the first ten Trek movies--including the remastered edition of TMP--will be returning to Paramount+ on July 1. So for awhile, anyway, all thirteen Trek movies will be available in one place again.

That seems to be the only piece of good news to come out of Paramount+ in the last few days...

I don't know if anyone's noticed, but Paramount seems to be removing archived video from the MTV and Comedy Central websites. I'm guessing stuff from startrek.com is probably next.

You’d think they’d have backed all the video clip up on P+ first, before shutting them down.
