And the Next Cancelled Show is...

I was a big fan of "Journeyman" and if I had to compare I would even rank it higher than the new QL. For me the strength of the new QL mostly came from it's cast. I liked the characters and actors well enough for me to care about them even if the stories were just meh much of the time.

SWAT got canceled, then saved for one last season in which main characters are getting sendoffs. Now it's been uncanceled again! Do the actors who they got rid of get to come back?

The wife and I binged through SWAT on Netflix during the writer's strike and we were bummed that it was going to be ending.

I think there is enough recurring characters that can be brought in to fill out the team instead of bringing back Luca or Street, the characters they moved on from (and another one is retiring soon at this point in the episodes we have seen, but maybe it changes now).

Awesome news!

I have seen the first 3 seasons, and I LOVE that show! (Don't have Apple TV... I was able to watch it for free due to a free month offer for it a year ago.)

The producers were probably told by the network, if you can get rid of $900,000 per episode from the budget, we'll give you another season.

Seriously, how much cheaper was After MASH, or Galctica 1980, season 9 of Scrubs which was about interns, after 90 percent of the cast was let go, than the full bodied original?

Did they half the budget after every season of Andromeda?

Ironically, slashing the budget can actually help a series.

Season 4 of ENT... their budget per was half what it was in season 3. It forced the producers to get creative, which is part of the reason why we got a season full of 2 and 3 parters... the cost of each was spread out for each story.

And that season was their best.

That story had very noticeably cheaper looking CG work, indeed there have been many complaints over the years of the cheap looking CG used for rendering the Nazi occupied White House, or the Gorn in the MU episode.

And the season consisting of multi-part episodes wasn't because of budget, that was just how the stories were planned. Indeed, one of the writers, it was either Manny Coto or Mike Sussman even said the Klingon forehead storyline was originally only going to be a single part episode, the story just ended up getting so complex they needed to do it in two parts.

Indeed, many producers have said it's actually a myth that multi-part episodes save more money than doing standalone. It was cited as the reason why Doctor Who producer Russell T Davies chose to do the 2005 revival of the show as episodic rather than as serials like Classic Who was.

Two and three parters do save some cost. For ecample, less set creations for other ships, planets, etc. since you already have most of what you need built in one episode, instead of having to pay for labor and materials to do it all over again each time.

And while the slashed may not have been the sole reason for those arcs (I never said it was the only reason, though the way I worded my thoughts might have made it seem like that was my intent, so apologies for the confusion), it may very likely have been a factor.

In any case, less budget has proven to be effective at getting producers to be very creative.

I gave up on it a couple episodes into season 3. Just wasn't worth the time to watch anymore. Never lived up to it's potential in season 1.

I liked the first season, but the second season didn’t really grab me. I finished it, but I still haven’t watched the third season. Not sure if I will either.

It was living on borrowed time as soon as Henry Cavill left the cast. He was their biggest asset, not only as an actor, but as a fan of the series. He added a certain legitimacy and gravitas to the role, which I really can't see Helmsworth doing.

I can't recall if they removed him from the project or if he left on his own. Although something tells me it was the former. Then again, I could also be mixing it up with the whole "Superman" fiasco, in which a very similar situation transpired with him, where he left (or was removed from) the project within a week or two of the Witcher announcement. It was all very strange and, of course, without any meaningful explanation.

Cavill bailed because he's a fan of the novels and games and didn't like where the show was heading.

Funny thing was it was around the same time as his Superman cameo in Black Adam, so the internet's best and brightest thought he had left a show to return to Superman even though there was no contract and no movie (and even if there was a movie, it would be years away).
