The Kelvin Timeline Starship Thread

I think the Franklin helm console also has a joystick-like control for flying the ship. So that ties in with the helm console on NX-class starships.

Indeed. Someone* even whipped up a pretty nice 3D model of the Franklin Helm/Nav console that seems pretty accurate to the film.

The Enterprise-A starship from Beyond is coming to STO as a playable ship*.
That also provides it with an official class designation.
The Enterprise-A is a Kelvin timeline Constitution II class intel cruiser.

It was revealed during Streaming. I’ll link to the official blog post when it’s out.
EDIT:
Dev blog links:
https://www.playstartrekonline.com/en/news/article/11566783
https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/11566783
-> same content, the 1st one just has an extra image and the 2nd link may be easier to read.

Interesting facts:
* Normally, STO devs try to give each ship a special feature based on what it does in the show. However, this Enterprise-A didn't get to do anything yet. So they went with the Proximity-Based Anti-Opposition Emitter, which is designed to combat swam ships by firing lots of beaaams.
* The dev blog states that the Constitution II class was designed to explore the Altamid nebula[sic]. In the Discovery novel The Enterprise War, it's explained that the USS Enterprise was refitted from the TOS Pilot version to the DSC/SNW to explore the Pergamum Nebula.
** It's got nothing to do with each other but I love that the explanation of "major class redesign to explore specific nebula" dovetails in both universes.

* There are name restrictions, so you cannot name a ship Enterprise or use 1701 as registry number.

Would have been nice if they added it before Gameprint went under.

Might still not have been printable. They're restrictive with some of the franchise's property. I really wanted to print myself the USS Dallas NA-04 but the Texas class was off limits. :weep:

I'm assuming that for whatever reason, STO is not allowed to come up with actual original names for unnamed ship classes.

I presume it's intentional, easier for players to remember the name of the class if it's the name of the focus ship. That's how we got D'Kyr class, Shrike class, Sh'vhal class etc.

In terms of original names STO came up with, I'm wracking my brain for examples. Two coined the M'Chla class for the 2250s-era Klingon bird of prey and NaQ'jej class for the Klingon cleave ship. The ship known as Borg Diamond from Star Trek: Armada is the "Borg octahedron" here. Harrad-Sar's barge from ENT "Bound", which is the Maraar class in the comics, became the Blackguard class in STO.

I really, really hope STO introduces the 32nd century USS Dresselhaus type from DSC just so they can give it an official name.

Well, you know what they’ll call it: the Dresselhaus class. ;)

I am secretly hoping for Bauhaus class. I love themed names.

It's here!
Constitution II class with "Constitution" and "Dreadnought" (USS Vengeance) skin, plus old/new comparison:
