And the Next Cancelled Show is...

Hulu will not be giving Death and Other Details a second season. It was not very good. Biggest issue was the lack of urgency. If people are being murdered on a cruise ship, maybe don't keep on boating like nothing happened. Reminds me of the season of 24 when a nuke blew up in downtown LA and a few episodes later people are out shopping like it never happened.

I liked it a lot but I don’t mind the cancellation. Seems like it always should’ve been a mini/one and done.

Could be worse, Could be set I'm a sleepy English county called midsomer

Meh. I watched it. I'm fine with it ending.

I would prefer if murder mysteries could remain murder mysteries and not end up with massive international repercussions. When they try and expand them to things with world shaking urgency they get silly.

I really enjoyed Monseur Spade but
had the same issue with it.

Just let a murder be a murder. The stakes are already high enough.

I prefer the old Agatha Christie-style murder mysteries. One charismatic/charming detective, the detective's best pal(s), a group of people in a limited location and tons of clues. I love that shit.

Midsomer Murders got me through Covid lockdown.

I enjoyed it but I'm not at all surprised it was canceled. It got waaaay too convoluted for its own good and I was actually disappointed by the final big twist. I kind of even saw ot coming because it twisting and turning so much.

I, too, prefer Agatha Christie-style mysteries. I don't mind murder mysteries getting complex like we've seen in Only Murders in the Building and Knives Out, but doesn't mean I want them to be the main force behind murder mysteries. As much as I loved Glass Onion (and probably more than most), even I think it was at knife's edge with convolution (sorry not sorry).

Murders and Knives Out may be complex, but they're still dealing with a local crime. They don't spiral out into international criminal syndicates & 7 different spy agencies. I have no issue with twists and complexity that are done well. I have issues with everything having stakes so ludicrously large that they're silly.

Yup, that's fair. Plus Death and Other Details hinged on way too many coincidences. Normally that's the kind of thing that would drive me away but they had a solid cast anchored around Mandy Patinkin.

I honestly hated everyone in that show except Patinkin, the iZombie guy (jesus he bulked up), and the "crazy" wife. The lead did not work for me.

Spade I really liked despite it falling apart for same reasons I've mentioned before.
I still don't even really know what happened at the end and why everyone, CIA, MI6, Vatican, two different intelligent agencies from France, two French terrorist groups (I think, I lost the plot there too), French police, the Algerians, Spade were all OK with Alfre Woodard walking away with the kid using her fake Canadian credentials. I expect Alfre wi be back if the show continues though. Small role for such a big actor. Again, I wish it stayed smaller.

Hate the characters or hate the actors? All of the characters aside from the two co-leads are loathsome (including the final last twist character), but I thought the acting was great. Lots of familiar actors from such shows and films as Daredevil, Justified, (new) Frasier, Crazy Rich Asians, House of Cards, and, of course, Only Murders in the Building. That said, I agree that Laura Patten wasn't good enough to stand toe-to-toe with Patinkin. She's decent but lacks the range and experience.

They need to give Mandy his own detective mini- series (not a full series; he doesn't like the commitment). He'd be great as another character --like a gruff Rockford/Ironside type guy .

Honestly, I didn't like the performances. Especially the lead. But none of them worked for me in this show. Maybe it was the direction.
