Probably. But still he is just getting too old to play Wolverine. It's time for them to recast now. They have done it with pretty much every other X-Men character.
We're assuming they're recasting the X-Men, but we don't know for sure since so far every X-Men character we've seen or will be seeing soon in the MCU, Beast, Professor X, Deadpool, and Wolverine, have all been played by the FoXmen actors.

OH!

Perfect!

There was a story where Psylocke, Captain Britain's sister, takes over Jean Grey's body for a time.

Sophie can dump her fake yank accent.

Fans are very precious over maintaining status quo casting. The first person they want to see in any role is someone who has played it before.

I can see that, but I tend to be very curious to see what a new actor does in the role. I've seen enough actors come in and take over a role and do phenomenal job.

When the fans know it's a total reboot, I don't think this is true at all. In fact, I think they have fun with the speculation. Example, people seem to love the idea of Giancarlo Esposito as professor X.

Conversely, nobody on earth wanted any casting from any previous FF movie. Save Chris Evans, but only as a Deadpool-like joke.

They can't recast them yet, there were clauses in the FoX-Men contracts that Disney took over saying that they can't recast the actors until around 2025. So until then they HAVE to use the actors FOX cast until the contracts are up and they can do a proper recast.

That's the first time I've heard of such a clause. Source?

Devin Faraci?

The guy who claimed the villain of Into Darkness would be either Harry Mudd, Trelane, Gary Mitchell, the Talosians or the Horta and that it was definitely NOT Khan?

Except Professor x was another timeline and again all the actors have been recast to their younger counterparts in the fox films. Except wolverine....

It matches how they haven't cast any new actors though.
Their X-Men Reboot film is still in development and they're not at the casting stage yet. Much like the MCU Fantastic Four film has been in development for at least 3 years, and they've just recently gotten around to Casting the leads for it.

Sydney Sweeny as Jean Grey?

Although Jamie Dornan and Dokota Johnson would be alarmingly good stunt casting as Jean and Scott, but then any couple real or fictional would do.

Are you familiar with this?

I was fine with Sophie as Jean, but the movies she was in were atrocious.

Elle Fanning should have played Jean. But really, if they're going for the long game in the MCU and starting them off as teenagers like they were in the comics, they should cast a bunch of unknowns.

I didn't mind Dark Phoenix too much. It wasn't nearly as bad as Apocalypse. That said, I haven't seen it since its release so...

Honestly, another problem revealed is how much of the budget goes to the actors' salaries, it's been pointed out how Dune part 2 cost less than recent CBMs and one of the reasons is that the actors agreed to a smaller payday compared to the cash that Disney and Sony throw at their actors.

Now, whether this is because the actors simply enjoyed making the movie enough to agree to a lower paycheque or the director convinced them or other reasons...
