Yeah, his death feels kinda incongruous with how active and imposing he was on The Mandalorian, in recent years.
All the 80's action icons are starting to drop...
Man that’s shit news to kick off the weekend. Just this morning I saw that he’d been announced as a guest for next month’s Dublin Comic-Con. Such a larger than life character and screen presence, he always delivered, whatever the genre.
Apollo Creed. Dillon, that sonofabitch. Tennessee Police Department Inspector Hampton Forbes. Greef Karga. Rest In Peace Mr. Weathers.
Loved him as Apollo and in Mandalorian, but Arrested Development is usually the first thing that comes to mind when I hear his name.
RIP, Carl Weathers. That was shitty news to get. You don't have Rocky or Creed without Apollo, that's how damn good and charismatic he was in that role. I'm glad he got The Mandalorian to end his career and his last movie was Toy Story 4. It's ironic because yesterday I watched Lance Reddick on Percy Jackson yesterday. His death, Manny Coto's and especially Annie Wersching's were ones that hit me hard. At least Carl made it to 76 but that is still not enough time. He was awesome and just made everything better.

This was a shock. I bet he's playing the Piano and singing "You've Only Just Begun...To Live" to everyone else with that sweet dulcet voice.

Yeah, Reddick, Cotto, and Wersching all died very young by today's standards and it really hurt for everyone (while Carl Weathers, Tom Wilkson, and Gary Graham dying in their 70s, while not kids and somewhat more in line with average life expectancy, is disappointing).

I'm still surprised Reddick passed away when he did. I just did a rewatch of Fringe and he was so great in that. It also wasn't all that long ago (10 years).
He even has the briefest of roles in MAGNUM FORCE and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, playing a reporter and an MP respectively.
I can't shake the feeling an indirect psychological "Covid shock" (plus of course an endless swathe of delayed or avoided diagnosis) exacerbated most recent cancer/heart disease related deaths like with Lance Reddick (and my father, who died from stroke complications, avoided warning signs with his failing health).
Anne Wersching was by far the worst; she was decades younger than Carl Weathers, she had 30-40 years of acting career left to go, and the mother of small children.
Terminal illness before 70 is always tragic.
76 isn't a terrible age to go but as others have said, he still seemed to imposing and vital in Mando
Yeah, but compare Kirstie Alley's death in her 70s with Wrath of Khan co-stars, Bibi Bisch (who died relatively young in her early 50s) and Matthew Buttwick (who died from AIDs at the nothing age of 29), while not dreadfully untimely either, still feels disappointing for similar reasons (when other co-stars still outlived or outliving her by many, many years).
RIP Carl Weathers. I hope you got a nice stew going in heaven.
