Highlander Reboot/Prequel Anticipation Thread

I'm not optimistic. The original was perfect, in its over-the-top-fun way. It's a favorite film of mine. I don't see how it can be improved on or made any more enjoyable.

Sure. Most of the modern day scenes were awful compared to the flashbacks. Replace that with better stuff. The charm in the original was the flashback scenes. Those were really good.

Wonder if Highlander 2 would've been somewhat well received if it didn't have the (then) future 2024 angle. Keep the alien/from the far past origin but the majority of the story takes place in the 90s.

There is a version of highlander 2 where the aliens from zeist is edited out, never seen it so don't know if makes it any better or not.

Only if you prefer time travel to aliens. (There are other edits made to the film to improve it somewhat.)

I still remember how terrible the original edit was. As I recall there's one fight where Connor goes from wearing one coat and wielding his samurai sword, to wearing a completely different coat and now he has (I think) Ramirez's sword!

I could be misremembering and this might have been sorted in subsequent edits.

I love the first movie. It will always be the original. And all the others will be copies with perhaps a slightly different plot or actors. But I can't agree that I watched some movies only because I like someone's acting or an attractive actor in general. But if the movie is boring in the first 10-20 minutes, I turn it off immediately.

While I love Henry, isn't there an actual Scotsman that can take the roll? Havent we moved past this thing of not casting character accurate actors in roles?? I mean I Really want an actual egyptian as Ramirez..

And If they don't have David Tenneant in the movie using his natual scottish lilt in atleast a supporting roll, there not trying hard enough.

I

Ultimately, as someone who loves the origami but has made a point of never watching the sequels or tv show, if this is great, all the better, but if it’s crap, I’m no worse off, it won’t take away my enjoyment of Mulcahy’s camp classic.

Oh, I heartily recommend the TV show. I hate the sequel movies, but the TV show is just wonderful.
And, hey, I like origami too! ;)

I'm probably one of very few people who has a strong love for the OG Highlander movie.
I even enjoy some of the sequels to a degree..... For what they are.... As in cult status B movies.

But yeah, the OG movie is just one of my childhood favorites and I'm honestly pretty stoked about Cavill being the new Connor MacLeod.

One of the very few? It literally won the Oscar for Best Movie Ever Made. It's beloved.

First season is pretty weak as well as the last one. There are some good episodes there, but folks shouldn’t get discouraged. Keep watching. It gets better.

I'd say the show jumped the shark with the Demon arc in the second to last season. The last season was really just testing backdoor pilots for a spin off.

The first season had its moments, including the pilot being the only episode with Connor in it (although the villian was terrible), but I agree the series peaked midway through, when he was in Paris. Kalas was probably the best villian arc, and started the best run of episodes.

I actually like Endgame, for the Connor/Duncan relationship.

The Source was disgustingly bad.

Highlander 2 was the first I saw and I was a little kid and it scared the shit out of me. So it has a special place in my heart.

Highlander 3 was just a redo of Highlander. But it was fine.

I won a contest hosted by Adrian Paul for best Quickening at a convention. I had him kneel down and pretended to chop off his head.

I still need to see that Talladega Nights. Thank you google though.
I know a lot of movie lovers, and you'd be surprised how many either never heard of Highlander, or have but haven't seen it. Beloved, sure. But by many? No.

The series peaked with season 4 for me, season 5 was fine too. But was gutted with the ending of season 5.

I actually quite liked the raven series. Amanda was a good character

And as we all know, anecdotal evidence is the best kind of evidence. ;)

I can imagine it being an age thing. While some movies are popular with younger generations despite their age I'd think Highlander is one that would appeal to those of us of a certain age. I'd be willing to be my 30 ish nephews nieces never heard of it, and also the same for the likes of the breakfast club etc, but they will know top gun, grease etc

But did you know that 42,7% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

That to me is very hard to answer, but also kinda proofs your point. Most of the movie lovers I know are in my age category, and whether or not they liked it, have heard of Top Gun, Grease, Breakfast Club and Highlander. Because we all grew up with it. We may not all share opinions on the movies, but we know of them.
Are Grease and Top Gun really that well known still?
