Klingon Empire: A Burning House

It's part of a series.

It's the fourth part of the former I.K.S. Gorkon Series. It was renamed starting with this book, because the series, which formerly was limited to the adventures of one ship, now tries to cover every part of the empire.

Having said that, while it certainly would be better to be familiar with the previous books, it isn't 100% necessary in my opinion.

Little of both. It picks up where the last book of the I.K.S. Gorkon series left off, but it's meant to be a jumping-on point and to be easy enough to follow along if you've never read the series.

Many of the characters in the book appeared on screen: Worf, Martok, Rodek (formerly Worf's brother Kurn, from "Sins of the Father," "Redemption," and "Sons of Mogh"), Klag ("A Matter of Honor"), Kurak ("Suspicions"), Leskit ("Soldiers of the Empire"), Toq and various other members of the Carraya prison camp ("Birthright"), etc.

I've just finished reading all the Klingon books back-to-back, what was quite odd was just as I finished "A Burning House" the DS9 episode "Soldiers of the Empire" was aired on Virgin 1 in the UK, it was fun to see Leskit in all his glory (and to finally realise what a Cardassian neck-bone looks like). I did have this mental image of Kornan as the Klingon captain from "The Final Frontier" so to see him again with his sleeveless top rolling around with Leskit was a bit bizarre (but entertaining nonetheless).

I *really* enjoyed the books, getting into the Klingon mindset was a blast compared with the (sometimes) "by the book" starfleet characters in the TNG and DS9 relaunches. The reactions of the Gorkon crew to the Elabrej "vibrating" in particular made me laugh :-)

To KRAD, are there any plans for more Klingon books? It was as if you were in full flow with "A Burning House", especially all the details on Klingon opera etc. so I'd love to see the series continue.

Cheers,

Colin

No current plans, as we want to wait and see how well A Burning House sells.

So buy lots of copies! They make dandy gifts..............

Hey KRAD! So, I'm here visiting BC, and I talked to one of my friends who likes Star Trek, but never read the books, and he starts telling me about these great books about Klingons he just started to read, and how he can't wait to read the rest of them. So there's definitely some new readers coming to the series!

In regards to the Burning House, kudos to you for giving us a book that could be a satisfying conclusion if we don't get any more Klingon Empire/Gorkon books, but still putting that hook at the end making us want more. When I read it, until the last page I was thinking 'Wow. Everything was finished in a very satisfying manner. Even if the series ended with this book, I'd be upset at the fact that it was over, but happy that things concluded the way they did.

Ya just had to write that final page, didn't ya.

Yes. Yes, I did.

Though, to be fair, I've been setting up Lorgh's plan for a while now, going back to The Art of the Impossible, where we first saw the character (though he was mentioned in the TNG episode "Sins of the Father").
