News The ongoing next Star Trek movie thread

You said "And just like this time."

In which posts did you see this? This time.

Facebook, twitter, and, to a lesser extent, Reddit - and I've been expressly told by other mods not to post convos from other places here because that's moving drama from one forum to here which they don't want.

That’s been the story for years now. Meanwhile a Section 31 film has been greenlit, and there may be a fifth TNG film in the future.

It might be best to accept that the Kelvinverse is done.

This.
How many hours of Star Trek have we gotten since we were supposed to get the next Kelvin movie?

If they wanted it to happen, it would have. They obviously don't, for a variety of reasons.

For now, maybe. But never say never. Who thought we'd have Picard or the TNG gang back 20 years after Nemesis?

Maybe one day they’ll return.

In the meantime, nothing's happening. And why?

Clash of egos over which script is better? They cannot afford the entire cast and other big names foe a specific script?

In the time that gone by, at least 2 or 3 Kelvinverse films could have been released in the meantime.

I reserve the right to be unimpressed, both from a consumer perspective and from a creative perspective.

I also reserve the right to move on and stop waiting around for something to happen. It is evident that nothing is happening on that front, while something is happening on another front.

They're probably watching the once unstoppable juggernaut Marvel faltering at the box office after contentspam on Disney+, and fear the same happening when their movies were about 1/3 as successful as Marvel's but cost just as much to make.

That's just my guess and how I'd react in their situation. I'd love infinite Kelvinverse movies, but I can see people saying "We've got Strange New Worlds at home!"

The INCREDIBLY recent Marvel box office drama doesn't explain the last 7 years of Kelvin stagnation.

The actors are probably too old to play the parts, maybe its time to leave this portion of Trek alone and develop something new. Maybe recasting Kirk and the crew again, it hasn't hurt the James Bond or the Batman series.

Prequel set "decades before" '09 in development. But don't worry, Trek 4 is also still in active development!

Edit to add:

The timing with the recent news of possible mergers and sales reminds me of the investors call where they had Abrams say Trek 4 would be out within a year when the cast hadn't even been told of it.

Pumping the value.

Seems like a way to not have to deal with the money issues holding back the “return of George Kirk” version of Star Trek 4.
