News? Stories from Dubious Sources

Unless I'm wrong, wouldn't they have to pay residuals to Matalas forever if they used Jack Crusher as an ongoing character?
Probably not, since Matalas is a staff writer. That thing about paying royalties for using Nick Locarno is because he was created by non-staff writers.

Yeah, much as I'd love to believe that Discord user, I'm going to stick with KennyB's Matalas-related interactions here, for sure.

I suppose it's within the realm of possibility that they've secretly given the greenlight to something with Jack Crusher, Seven of Nine, and Q, and it's without Terry Matalas' involvement... but the odds seem... slim?

Terry might be under an NDA.

If it was a soft greenlight, he might not be permitted to talk about it directly.

Dave Blass, at least, is pretty confident Terry's not heard his phone ring.

That'd be sweet regardless.

It's common for producers to work for several studios at once (Akiva Goldsman has projects at both Paramount and Warner Bros.).

I don't belong to the cult of TerryTrek. More voices can only be a good thing on this project.

Terry's good, but he's not Shonda Rhimes/Quinta Brunson/Taylor Sheridan good.

(Taylor Sheridan is having problems. Given the stipulations of the new WGA contract mandating a minimum of three writers to a room, the sole auteur/writer/showrunner/Executive Producer/Chief Cook and Bottle Washer is going the way of the dodo.)

I prefer the metallic, utilitarian Kurtzman-era production design over the cruise ship motif of the 1980's.

The Enterprise is a military vessel. Carpeting is an extravagance (It was originally installed back in the 1980's to muffle the actors' footsteps as they walked across the floor.)

Metal is practical, spartan. It reflects the purpose for which the ship is built.

I feel like I should make that my signature. "I am a fan of Picard, but I don't belong to the cult of TerryTrek."

Oooh ... Do it! :D

Sure, I'm not married to the idea of it being some exclusively Matalas-driven project, or whatever, either. I just like the idea of the show itself - a fair bit.

Scott Bakula is game… according to this dubious source at least.

While that site is often full of weirdly negative spins and occasional absolute nonsense, in this case they're quoting the generally-reliable TrekMovie, which in turn is quoting a publicly available video interview (albeit one that is part of a very long YouTube video). Check out this video at 8 hours, 6 minutes, and 35 seconds in (link should jump right to it) and watch until about 8 hours 8 minutes and you'll get to hear the always-pleasant Bakula discuss it with your very own earholes:

I initially wondered if this might be the case, but ultimately I don't believe this is accurate, at least per https://www.wgacontract2023.org/the-campaign/summary-of-the-2023-wga-mba :

"The following requirements are triggered depending on the number of episodes ordered, unless a single writer is engaged to write all episodes"

A rumor from a non-dubious source... Mark A. Altman on the Inglorious Treksperts podcast has discussed a well received Earth-Romulan War film script making the rounds at Paramount that "reboots the franchise", without the involvement of JJ Abrams.

Podcasts are a pain to directly link to, but it's on the Very Short Treksperts one

Atlman keeps claiming that everyone's talking about this alleged script, but he's the only one I've heard mention it.

Have they maybe just found THIS online and think it's new?
