Jack Reacher (Amazon) Appreciation thread

valkyrie013

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
So, Reacher is now watchable on Amazon Primo.
Seems like all episodes were released at once, so thats good, not weekly.

So, thoughts so far ( on episode 3 so far)
Quite good, haven't read the books, but even the author gives high praise for the series.
I know its not Tom Cruise.. he done quite well in the movies i think, but he's not 6'5" and built like a tank.. the new guy is.. as described in the book.
Its been funny, bit of a sherlock element/mystery/detective going, supporting cast is great, Rosco is excellent.
So, I very much recommend it if anyone's interested.

EDIT: Oh.. forgot to add spoiler tag, if someone would be so kind.. Thanks!

Watched the first two eps last night. It’s a decent action show. Turn off the brain and it’s enjoyable. Good supporting cast.

It actually made me appreciate the Cruise movies more. Cruise looked nothing like the character as written but he’s got tons of charisma and can act. The guy they cast looks like the character from the book but he’s not a great actor and seems like he’d be more comfortable playing the heel on a minor card WWE gig.

Also:
I’m not there yet, but I assume- based on the glasses thing-that Krystin Kreuk’s character is in on it.

Plan on starting this tomorrow. I'm more familiar with the actor (Smallville and Titans) and from the books he looks more the part. That said, I also enjoyed the Tom Cruise films.

I’m a huge fan of the books. I really like Tom Cruise as a lead and so I was able to overcome the horrendous miscasting and enjoy Chris McQuarrrie’s fairly decent thriller. The sequel was a bit of a snoozefest, unfortunately.

However Alan Ritchson is just tailor-made for this role - looks exactly like the silhouette on some of the books (maybe a fuller head of hair!), has the size and build and, for me anyway, captures how I’d imagine Reacher to sound, move etc. obviously no actor will be exactly how you picture a fictional character but I’d say he’s 90%+ of the way there. I’ve enjoyed the series so far too - the fight scenes are very well done (if anything, Reacher perhaps doesn’t win all the fights quite as easily as he tends to in the books, but I guess they didn’t want that Steven Seagal thing where nobody is allowed to lay a hand on our hero).

I’ll be tuning in for the adaptations of all the remaining books!

Watched the series over the weekend. Decent enough. Alan Ritchson looked the part, did a decent job with the fight / action sequences but had the acting chops of a plank of wood. Supporting cast were better actors and brought something to the table with their parts. Overall, I'd give the series 7/10

I find Richson riveting, so far. He's surprisingly subtle, but his face communicates a lot of what's going on inside while managing at the same time to maintain the superficial stoicism the character demands.

He reminds me of Spiner on TNG, who used to astonish me all the time with what he could convey with a thing like a tiny shift in the set of his mouth, as in the final shot of "Legacy."

Yeah, I’m with @Serveaux on this. “Reacher said nothing” is the most common phrase in the books; I always imagine him as being a fairly impassive character but I think Ritchson conveys that impassivity and solidity along with the occasional flash of humour and emotion that’s bubbling under the surface.

Well, I'm only into the second episode so far (and have only read a couple of the books) and I think the lead is doing a fine job (and feels like the character from the books I've read).

Enjoying it so far.

Tom Cruise was like a wolverine, small but very fierce. But as written, Jack Reacher is more like a grizzly bear: fierce, but also massive. In one of the books, someone refers to him as Bigfoot. And when another character who read that message sees him, she knows it's him they were referring to. So yes, while Tom Cruise is a skilled actor, a bankable star, and ballsy as :censored: doing his own stunts... he wasn't the ideal choice for Reacher. Ritchson is a much better fit.

The first three episodes premiere Dec. 15, and then one episode per week after that.

Assuming he won't be in it, I'll miss "the Tweed Tornado."

Someone more observant than me pointed out the problem being well summed in a scene in the first movie where Cruise’s Reacher is able to blend into a group of people by putting on a baseball cap and simply stepping back into the crowd (or is it the bus? Told you I’m not observant). That just wouldn’t happen with book (or tv) Reacher. He always stands out.
