Missing 32" Enterprise finally found...

Wasn’t there a thread here at the BBS that had a 1960’s brochure from Howard Anderson?

I seem to remember a small picture of a model of Enterprise, with other pics of cars…other models.

Ah!

Here it is:

I seem to remember someone talking about early fiberglass models…
Unless I'm mistaken, the address on the pictured postcard is for the shop where the 11-foot model was built. Same street, anyway.

Having been a member of both The RPF and TrekBBS for 20 years, it's been really weird seeing all the crossover in the last few days.

Haha. I joined RPF because of the Tomy 32" release a couple months ago. Then this happens and more crossover. The funny thing is I been with Hobbytalk also for about the same time as TBBS and I have seen in people crossing over from there. So all three worlds colliding for me lately. Lol

We're actually lucky the model was still attached to the stand with the Datin information affixed to the bottom, if that was missing I think the storage unit buyer is chucking a dirty, busted ass old model in the garbage instead of listing it on eBay.

Without the stand and info, I suspect the seller would still have listed it on ebay....perhaps with a lower starting bid.

Condition aside, even to the average, uninformed person on the street it is clearly more highly-detailed than something that someone would cobble together in their garage in an afternoon. The size is also a factor....much larger than an old AMT plastic kit.

Star Trek has a huge following and much money is made from merchandise and collectibles.

All things considered, I think he would have tried to get a few bucks out of it, even if it had been in much worse condition.

Heck, a lot of us would get into a bidding war for a large wooden model of the Enterprise that HAD been cobbled together in a hurry in someone's garage! :shifty::biggrin::shrug::o

So this guy who has this piece of history is not reaching out to the family of Roddenberry. I would. He's going to probably hold it hostage from them until he gets the pay out he wants.

Regarding the behind-the-scenes photo from Phase II with a little Enterprise in the background (you have to click on the image to see the whole photo), which fx company was picture taken at?

And are we sure that the little model in the background is not an AMT kit?
Pretty sure that's Brick Price Miniatures who was doing model work for In Thy Image.

Not sure if there's any new info in this article that hasn't already been covered, but here: https://trekcentral.net/has-the-original-uss-enterprise-filming-model-been-found/
The only thing I can think of is that the filmmaker Burton Holmes' name continued on long after he died in the form of a corporation, Burton Holmes, Inc (BHI)
This purports to be a history of that business after Holmes died in 1958.
May have nothing to do with the 33-incher but it does open the possibility of the Burton Holmes angle of the story being credible, if the storage unit was being used by the corp.

it is the AMT kit, there is another photo that shows the shape under the saucer, plus compare the size to the desk drawers.

? So what if he hasn't reached out to the Roddenberrys and is instead selling it for it's worth. He's under no obligation to give it away, they're rich, and they have no shortage of their own memorabilia, assuming it hasn't all been sold in the process of getting richer. Hell, it is more honest to Genes mercurial nature for the guy to sell it for all it's worth to the highest bidder than to let sentiment enter into his deal. Let the guy enjoy his windfall, I say. If Rod wants it he can take a week or two of his producer cheques and buy it.

It should be donated to the Alexander Courage estate. :)

Yeah I'm thinking he's looking at all his options. He's not about to let go of it that easily. Once fans bombarded his email and told him what he truly had (though I think he had a inkling before hand) he is not gonna give it up easily now.

He just better not dump anymore Pine Sol on it....:guffaw:;)
