Missing 32" Enterprise finally found...

I have no idea who owns it in this scenario. The finder? Rod Roddenberry? CBS could even make a case that Gene never really owned it.

The market for screen-used TOS communicators (there were only 10 of them) is chockablock with cleverly aged forgeries, but I'm having trouble realistically envisioning this Enterprise model as a counterfeit. This is a different animal.

David Shaw famously built an exact replica of the 33-inch Enterprise as it was in new condition, and documented his work online, so it is theoretically possible for someone to create a forgery. But again, this eBay model has an air of truth about it. It seems like the real thing.

My understanding is that the Rodenberry’s should own it, since it was “given” to Gene. Even if the transfer wasn’t official, I don’t think CBS cares about it, the Jein auction last month pretty much shows that they aren’t worrying about stuff that went missing from a production 60 years ago.

As it was stolen the person who bought it in the storage unit shouldn’t have any ownership claim, but I’m not sure if a police report was ever filed, so that might make things a bit more nebulous.

I always thought there was a dowel rod for the impulse deck spine atop the rear of the saucer.

One shot actually shows a very low "fin" not unlike the Rom BoP.

Okay, did anyone else see the two holes at the rear top of the saucer section? Right along the impulse ridgeline? You know...where you might attach some hooks to hang a ship up?

I think this is it!

Here's a question....the D-7 was pantographed for the most accurate styrene Trek kit ever.

Was the 3-footer too complex for that?

I doubt the issue was complexity. But there are a few pretty noticeable differences between the 33" study model and 11' filming model (notably the shape of the saucer.) and I would assume they didn't pantograph in order to try to hit the profile of the bigger model.

Looking at the eBay photo and the Roddenberry office photo....the wood grain in the base appears to be the same...
I'm not holding my breath because I think it will be fake. I'm holding my breath because I'm afraid it will disappear again.

I hope the person whom "found" the model in the storage locker does the right thing and gets it back to the Roddenberry family. I looked at the pictures on E-Bay. I think it's the real deal. Shape of the lower saucer is the give away. The details match up too perfectly. It's in rough shape with bits missing, but defiantly restorable. If not the Roddenberry Family, it belongs with her "Big Sister" at the Smithsonian...

I think that will depend on how expensive the right thing would turn out to be for this person. If they can get it sold for even a fraction of what the Jein X-Wing just went for and kick the can down the road to the next owner to "do the right thing" then that would be a hard deal.

To quote Dr. Jones, Jr. "That depends on how reasonable we're all willing to be."

Of course if this is the original person that made the thing go missing in the first place? That's a different story.

^^ Yeah, by now this Seller has received all sorts of messages and realizes he's holding on to a priceless bit of Hollywood memorabilia. The prospects of a big payout is probably racing through his head.

The weird thing about this is whole thing is that Trek World did a video just two months on it...

Kind of a coincidence that it was put up on eBay 8 weeks later. I'm not convinced this guy didn't know what he had...
