The Whoniverse comes to iPlayer Nov 1st

He's now claiming the Royal Family have copies of all the lost episodes...

IIRC, this has been investigated, and they don't. (Charles used to watch the show.)

Ringo Starr had a video recorder in the 60s to tape Doctor Who off the air, but his collection burned up in a fire in the 70s.

He said back in May that if he or his family were to be harmed he'd give the rights to the Russian Federation, lol

Given the current state of international affairs, why wouldn't the Brtish government seize it in a forfeiture, like they've done with Russian yachts and bank accounts? Intellectual Property is property. :)

Seriously, though. The dude's bugfuck.

I'm sure that the BBC plans to fight Coburn in court over this loss of rights issue. It's rather ridiculous. But pulling the episode pending the legal battle seems like the right move for now. An abundance of caution, if you will.
My vague feeling is that The Dominators was initially the only Troughton to survive was down to the law suit. Evidence had to be available

The guy has gone all QAnon this week with conspiracy theories about Covid being fake, NASA being fake and we've never been to space and instead filmed in a studio, Chemtrails, moon being fake/hollow and how Biden is a clone actor wearing a mask and Klaus Schwab is going to create WWIII all over his retweets.

Which, ironically, would all make for a great Doctor Who story.

I don't believe a word out of his mouth but he's claiming now that negotiations with the BBC are back on.

But to be honest, everything I've seen him write, I'd prefer AUC to remain legally unavailable then a single penny be paid to him. It's not as if people will have much difficulty finding it if they really want to watch it.

Although they're not screaming about it online like certain people the estates of some other writers aren't giving permission for their stories to go up either. While there's much more chance of these being resolved, it looks like the following won't be available on Day 1:

Abominable Snowmen, Web of Fear, Dominators, Seeds of Death, Terror of the Zygons and Seeds of Doom.

Not a complete shock, as the estates of Robert Banks Stewart and Haisman/Lincoln have caused problems with using their creations in the past.

Another thing I don't particularly understand is how the BBC didn't clear the streaming rights in perpetuity (at least by setting up some kind of ongoing royalties) when they got these on BritBox in the first place. (Unless they've not been on BritBox in the UK and only are in the US.)

Every platform will have it's own licence agreement. No one could have imagined the streaming future when these stories were being first released in physical format.

Soundtracks going up on BBC Sounds as well.

Seeds of Death is odd. Unless it's an actor difficult to see a problem with that alone.

As part of the Whoinverse celebration, Toby Hadoke produced this short film about Doctor Who's history on social commentary. I looked for a YouTube posting but couldn't find anything.

Nothing too revelatory and the film demonstrates that Doctor Who, much like Star Trek, has had a long history embedding social commentary in its stories, regardless what certain fans seems to think about either franchise becoming "too woke" now. Still, it's a fun six minutes to watch.

Not my image, a twitter account I was linked to had a thread explaining what was going on with screencaps.
