Playmates Toys

I don't expect the screwhole situation to change, the TOS Enterprise and phaser from last year both had a plethora of them. I guess they had to change the way they manufactured these things since the 90s ones only had a few. Using screws instead of glue seems like ot would be more expensive, so presumably it's some kind of toy safety thing.
Probably to discharge disassembly.

The old saucer is a tad wider.

I think the Playmates Enterprise had the longest secondary hull in relation to other parts of the ship.

Shaw did a wonderful drawing of the AMT...
with any luck...I hope he tackles this and DST's

Both the TOS Communicator and 1701-D are up for sale on Amazon.

lots of new pics of the E-D. Sadly…but not surprisingly the the snakehead portion of the stardrive section looks like it has zero detail. So if you display the ship separated it’s gonna look shitty.

Yeah, I think that was a packaging consideration for a more compact retail box that they tried to convert into a feature.

The original one also only had lights in the nacelles.

Differences as far as I can tell:
- painted windows except on the back side of the neck and the front part of the engineering section (old one only had slits, no paint at all)
- only the dorsal saucer phaser is painted, lower saucer phaser is missing, others are unpainted (old one had all painted IIRC)
- nacelles and pylons are smooth (old one had fine details)
- deflector is blue with orange (old one was just all red)
- escape pods are yellow, but only painted on the dorsal saucer (old one's were gray)
- painted windows on the side of the neck (old one had fewer details there)
- bland unpainted impulse engine (old one had red plastic there)
- no transporter emitters or RCS thruster stickers (old one had those)
- separation function (old one was one piece)
- 3 buttons on the engineering section (old one had 4 buttons on the neck)

Thanks for clarifying, I knew there was a red piece but I couldn't remember if it lit up. This could have been something special, but it seems they half-assed it. Why does having a more accurate deflector and saucer separation come at the cost of less painted detail? They could have chucked the saucer separation in my opinion.

Well, yet another FAIL on the Enterprise-D... :sigh:

Seriously, how HARD does it have to be to get the deflector to light up? Diamond Select, much as I loathe them as a "toy" company, at least managed to get the ship to look decent. In 2023 with the technology available, EVERY Enterprise toy should be full of lights like a Christmas tree AND still be a toy you can play with without fear of breaking it. The TOS Enterprise by Playmates from last year is an indication of what was possible, so it makes it seem like a TOS bias. TNG fans can't even get one decent replica of their main ship, and it feels like we keep getting screwed over again and again...

(also, apologies if this post seems overreacting, I take my Star Trek collecting VERY seriously, and we so seldom get any cool merchandise, so I'm just super disappointed since I had such high hopes for this being at least a passable replica of my favorite Enterprise)

Hate to say it, but DST knocked it out of the park with their enterprises, including the D (with the exception of the display stands)

(Please disregard the popcorn ceiling. Previous homeowner decision lol)

I know the feeling. ;)

Hmm, bad news on the figures, better for the ships and role play.

...while the ships and role play items have sold well, the action figures have not. Therefore, the company is assessing how best to move forward. The leaked action figure wave containing Q, Seven of Nine, and others is “in limbo.” Target has been supportive of the line, but other retailers have been less so. With the ships and role play pieces doing well, Playmates is still looking at releasing another ship and accessory. They are currently narrowing the ship selection down from a pool of ideas (they would not say which ships were being considered), and the role play item might be a tricorder (unclear from which series, but I would guess TOS, as that would be in-keeping with their current trend) or possibly some other accessory. All things considered, I wouldn’t count new ships and accessories out, but the action figures – including the rumored Q/Seven/Geordi/Worf wave – is likely unsalvageable.
