A classic topic - looking forward to the entries. Not sure what is to be added regarding the voting at the moment. October 28 seems like a good deadline. If you like me to do the voting thread then, I'm happy to oblige. 
As long as it feels like a haunting - doesn't matter what the actual thing is that's doing the haunting. Actual ghost, treknohbabble subspace phenomena, mutated monster, naughty nanites, or Mr. Cartwright in disguised as the Alien Ghost...

i was thinking of will when asking about the tentacles?
Sounds fun. I actually had an episode of The Vulcan planned in which the ship is on a run away plunge through space. No efforts to get her under control seem to work, but that was the big reveal to the rest of the crew that the ship herself is fully sentient. Probably not the haunting rbs is thinking about. I'll have to come up with something completely new.

The cause of the haunting isn't important - only that the story is spooky. An intelligent ship would fall under the "Treknobabble" cause.

I read that into it and thought of that. I just hadn't planned on it being spooky as much as terrifying. "OH NO! The breaks are jammed, there's a star dead ahead and helm is not responding!!!" That kind of terrifying.

You've laid out all the concepts I could think of. I think I'll have to rely upon @Laura Cynthia Chambers to come up with an original concept for this story. Whatever I manage to cobble together, I'm sure it won't have her creative flair.
I'm really looking forward to reading all the inspired entries for this challenge.
