Best Mom in Trek!

Captain Janeway being a mothering figure to Seven of Nine during the Voyager series run. Whatever went wrong with their relationship after Voyager got home, leading to Seven becoming estranged from her mentor and joining a group of space pirates, could change my mind. Perhaps the Seven of Nine spin-off can explore this storyline more one day with a Janeway/Seven reunion and some cool flashbacks using digital de-aging. I hope that they are still both on good terms though at least? They may no longer talk to each other a bit like that time when Spock did not speak to Sarek for a long time.

If Janeway being ‘best mom’ to Seven does not work out, I still vote for Janeway being best Mom to Mollie, or the Salamander litter. :D

I vote for Amanda in the prime and Kelvinverse timelines. She supported and loved Spock without condition, and he defended his mama because of it.

And she also supports and loves Sarek without condition, despite all of the baggage between Sarek and Spock. She knows that even if father and son aren't on speaking terms, she still loves Sarek in spite of it all.

In terms of mother, as annoying as she could be, I think Lwaxana was a good mother. She always sought what was best for Deanna, and I think she did the best she could considering she had lost a previous daughter.
When we knew Lwaxana had lost a husband, it made sense to me that she’d be protective of her only child. But when we found out about Kestra, things came into full focus. She’d lost one of her girls; she couldn’t lose another one.
I liked Lwaxana from the beginning.

I don't see Lwaxana Troi as a "good" mother.

"Good" parents don't ignore and trivialise their adult children's opinions and choices. They don't attempt to manipulate (and bully) their children into what the parent feels is the "right" choice (especially over relationships). They don't turn up at the child's workplace, insult the child's managers and interfere with the work the child is doing.

Lwaxana Troi's background might explain why she does this, and I don't think that she doesn't want to be a "good" mother but good intentions aren't the same as good parenting. Parents want to be good parents and it's hard to imagine anyone who deliberately sets out to be a "bad" parent nevertheless there are bad parents out there.

If intentions are the thing that makes someone a "good" parent then it's hard to see why Worf gets such a bad rap.

Lwaxana did her best and that must be chalked up as a point in her favour. "Good enough" yes: "Good" no.

I have to agree with this, although I don't think that we can really give Worf so much credit for good intentions, either.

As for the main question, I agree Amanda is the clear frontrunner, though there are too few choices of any real substance to pick from.

I love every version of Amanda. Especially Disco Amanda. And also especially TOS / TAS Amanda.

Pelia got a major foot in the door for me by claiming Amanda's friendship.

But it's hard to argue with "Horta".
