Worked with Thanos.
But that was different. He was clearly set-up as a future threat who was working behind the shadows of the events of that film. On his own.

As oppose to one or two characters randomly added to a team line-up that would leave non-fans thinking "Wait, where did they come from?"

And then you do their films.

It could work if you weave it right.

Yeah, I really don't see how Capt. Marvel or Spider-Man appearing at the end of AoU without being introduced before it would have felt really random. Those characters both really deserved the kind of big introductions they ended up getting, not just random cameos.

Spider-Man appearing Civil War was not a "big introduction" but behind the scenes Shoehorning-101, as he--in the plot--had no reason to be involved in a conflict he had no connection to whatsoever (and Parker's explanation to Rogers only made the shoehorning more apparent). If Marvel/Disney were so desperate to shove Spider-Man into the MCU, they could have created a debut film with no problem at all. He's the company's flagship character--the face of Marvel far and above all others (yes, that includes Wolverine), and even if Marvel did not want to film yet another origin story, they did not need to feel they had to, or it could have been referred to (dialogue, flashback--typical of the medium which gave birth to Spider-Man). Either way, the forced introduction in Civil War has been and continues to be rightly criticized.

Nah. We got the 'underoos' scene which was totally awesome. I'm good with it.

Oh, and the metal arm thing. And the old movie reference. Yeah...... Good stuff.

I liked Nando's Midnight Suns pitch.

Honestly, I think a good Disney+ strategy would be to pivot its TV content towards building both this and the "Young Avengers" stable they have been working on. That could solve a lot of the issues they have had with how many unrelated threads Phases 4/5 have had. Try and braid them into three ropes rather than only one (which will inevitably not work).

Me too, the MCU version of Spidey is my favorite movie version so far, and I loved his introduction in Civil War.

Yes it was a big introduction, it addressed who he was, showed what he could do, and it had him meeting the other characters and taking on a role in the story.
It sounds like if the Age of Ultron scene had happened he would have just suddenly shown up at the end with no earlier introduction or explanation for how he came to be there.

"The biggest difference from the other MCU movies to date is that it’s really wacky, and silly." Not the most reassuring of quotes.

I hope that's not all it is.

Also, I really don't like the updated costumes we've seen in some of the photos, particularly Kamala's. Why such a rush to replace the excellent costume from her series?

Yeah.... That's what did it for me. I loved Ragnarok and the GotG movies. That kinda wacky silly had a great balance with drama and action. Love And Thunder, while still a movie I will rewatch and find funny, went overboard. The drama didn't hit hard enough. That is by the way an objective opinion and not set in stone. Others will think otherwise and this is perfect.

I am kinda worried that, despite the tone in the trailers, this might sway more towards ONLY the wacky silly. But, as logic and reasons should and will dictate.... Opinions will be formed later. For all we know, the humor that has appealed to people in movies lik Ragnarok, GotG and Love and Thunder was a reason for the companies that make the trailers (remember, studios DO NOT make trailers anymore) to focus on that.

He served no in-universe purpose in that film. Remove him, and the main plot and sub-plot of the film (Capt trying to save Bucky / rushed, misguided "conflict" over the Accords) still unfolds the same.

Indeed.

I didn't notice Kamala's update but I LOVE Carol's new costume. It's closer to the original Mar-Vell/Genis/Phyla, which I always liked. Just gotta get that cool cosmic-awareness-stars-in-the-shadows effect to add the cherry on top.
