In moratorium

I don't believe in saying "No". The more rules you have, the more rule-breakers you'll have. Rules are made to be broken. (And yet I used to be a mod! Figure that one out... )

If I was making a Star Trek show, and someone told me "no" or "it can't be done", that's the first I'd go to. So, ironically, no moratoriums.
In the words of Nicholas Meyer “Art thrives on restrictions.”

Obstacles that have been put in the way that they have to overcome. Budgetary, logistical, and otherwise.

Gene Roddenberry, with great respect to him, was the asshole who kept saying, "No. No. No." No wonder Rick Berman was his successor.

Stemming from a post I n the controversial opinions thread, which wells do you feel Trek has boldly gone to too many times?

Which things could the Trek creatives be told are not to be used for an extended period in order to let the franchise spread its wings wider?
Deus ex machina.

If time travel is never used again, that would be great.

Time travel has not worked in ST in decades and should never, ever be explored again.

Time Travel.

Time travel. Just too many holes for my liking. Just nerf it all.

Time travel.

time travel

These "gone to the well too many times" suggestions are of course going to be subjective, but I'm honestly surprised how much this one came up. Personally, I love time travel stories. "Time travel" is probably my favourite genre of fiction, and Star Trek without time travel to me would be like Star Trek without Starfleet. Travel to the past, alternate timelines, save the future... keep them coming! :D It doesn't even really bother me that much if the time travel logic doesn't always hold up, and in fact nitpicking the logic can be fun in itself! :) So I can never see myself being onboard with all of you who want to ban time travel, sorry.

The Borg...

This one I can get behind, though, so I'm not totally offside from the rest of you! :) I remember I audibly groaned when
they were revealed to be the antagonists of Picard season 3.

But my biggest one, which I haven't seen mentioned yet is resurrections. That's a Star Trek staple going back to TOS, but I'd be happy if we never saw one again. If you want to generate the drama of a main character dying, then have them stay dead and deal with the consequences. Main character death isn't probably something that you should be going to often, but if you do, it should be permanent, just like real life. It just undermines the storytelling if you contrive a way to bring someone back.

I love Brent Spiner, but I wasn't thrilled when
Picard season 3 resurrected Data... after he had already been "resurrected" once for season 1!

The only modern resurrection I'm OK with is Shaxs, because they used that to skewer the concept in general. :)

Klingons
Borg
Temporal Mechanics

I want them to bring back the Dominion and modernize the Jem'Hadar.

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Creatives shouldn’t be restricted.
There's something to be said for this.

Who is to say that that new time travelling episode may not be the greatest thing ever written for Trek ?
When you’re writing to commission, the commissioner will give you a brief.

You must work within that brief.

If the brief says “no <x>”, that’s the brief in which you must work.

And that’s before you get to practical restrictions such as budget, schedules etc etc.

A true creative thrives within and despite those.
