MLB 2023 Season: Rangers are going hunting for Snakes

And the Angels are already buying; they're picking up Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez from the White Sox for two of their higher-ranked prospects. And per Jon Morosi, they're in advanced talks with Washington to pick up Jeimer Candelario.

So Mike Trout is looking at his Angels future consisting of no Ohtani and no one in the prospect funnel.

The Angels gave up a pitcher (we drafted 20) and a catcher, where we are pretty deep (assuming Logan O’Hoppe comes back). Yes they are both high-rated prospects.

To say we have “no one” in the pipeline is overstating the case just a bit.

At least we’re going to go down swinging. I was in favor of trading Ohtani, but if this is what’s happening then I’m going to get on board and hope for the best.

Unleash the Rally Monkey!

In other news, Guardians trade Amed Rosario to the Dodgers for Noah Syndergaard, Pirates trade Carlos Santana to the Brewers for a prospect, and Angels DFA Jared Walsh.

So, Shohei had himself a day yesterday.

Maybe the greatest single day performance by a baseball player ever?

There's too much history to baseball for me to know for sure, but if it wasn't, it was pretty damn close.

and Angels DFA Jared Walsh.

I kinda feel bad for him, some serious and bizarre health stuff. But the bottom line is he's not producing.

As a Braves fan, what are the odds of the braves choking away the NL East lead?
How big of a lead did Tampa have, only to be 1.5 behind the Orioles?

The White Sox are in full fire-sale mode. Pitchers Giolito & Lopez to the Angels and Lynn & Kelly to the Dodgers.

Regardless of where the Cubs are, I think it would be a mistake to trade Stroman and/or Bellinger. They really need some building blocks.

Yesterday, Max Scherzer said he wanted to have "a conversation" with Steve Cohen about the Mets' direction and future.

Today, he is a Texas Ranger.

But now that trade is on hold.

Per The Athletic, the only holdup is waiting for league approval due to the amount of money that's changing hands. Scherzer is said to be willing to waive his no-trade clause.

Edit: Deal is done. Scherzer and cash to Texas, prospects to New York.

Edit 2: Louisangel Acuna (Ronald's younger brother) to the Mets, where he immediately becomes a top prospect. The Mets are covering more than $35 million remaining on Scherzer's contract (that was the holdup; the league must approve any cash transaction of more than $2 million). In addition, Scherzer has agreed to opt into his 2024 player option.

Anyone else surprised at the lack of trades so far. The only big one has been Scherzer but I thought there would be more action. I guess a lot of the bubble teams started to play well and there aren't many sellers. I really was hoping the Giants would do something this weekend.

The Cardinals are selling -- Jordan Montgomery to the Rangers, Jordan Hicks to the Blue Jays.
