One question that may or may not be answered by a repeat viewing: was the Orion crew being given credit for finding the portal something new introduced to the timeline, or was it always meant to happen? If it was something new, then how did Tendi know her ancestor was on the crew that found it? But if it was always meant to happen, why did Boimler think it was the Enterprise that discovered it?

I’m going with Novikov self-consistency principle-style “always meant to happen.” I think the only two people we know, for certain, believed Starfeet found the portal were Boimler and Mariner. So, maybe they retain the true history because they witness the fabricated story but Tendi’s knowledge is the common knowledge everyone else knows (of those who know about an admittedly not very noteworthy portal as of 2380). That’s how I understood it at least…

Imgur finds my episode screencaps hot & sexy as well... :D

The bit in the turbolift came off to me like a needed course correction for Spock; if he keeps being happy with Christine he could take a job teaching at the Academy while they raise a family (imagine this Spock romping joyously with his 3/4 human children in a green field under Earth’s yellow sun) and all that other stuff never happens.
Universe collapses into chaos.

Boimler saved the day.

Loved it. About to watch it again. That was just great. Sean at TrekCulture is going to have a CVS receipt worth of Cetacean Observations for this one.

If it was something new, then how did Tendi know her ancestor was on the crew that found it? But if it was always meant to happen, why did Boimler think it was the Enterprise that discovered it? When he came back and told Tendi she was right, you'd think she'd have replied with "Well duh, everyone knows that." Again, it could be something I missed because I was still laughing about Boimler saying "Riker!" as he mounted the saddle.
It came off as a self-fulfilling loop to me. What happened needed to happen and had always happened, like Spock saving his own life when he went through the Guardian of Forever in the animated series.

"Their references are surprisingly specific" - a LD reference inside SNW?

Spock's disconcerting attempts at humor were perfectly played, as was Boimler's reaction to it.

Overall, joyous and surprisingly touching (Pike on his late father, Ad Astra Per Aspera - even the Orions). It was a beautiful idea to connect past, present and future together via the NX-01.

Haven't watched all of LD but may well check out S3 after enjoying this so much. Jack Quaid knocked it out of the park as live-action Boimler.

The ending was wonderfully goofy.

Son of a bitch, it's another 10. That's 2 within 3 episodes. What the hell?

Boimler must die for breaking Christine's heart. :p

Fun episode. I maybe expected it to be more fun. I'm disappointed they didn't make any mention to the Enterprise looking different. Guess you can't joke about some things.
