Happy Bobby Bonilla Day everybody!

Here are some other notable deferred-money contracts, courtesy of ESPN Stats & Information:

• Bobby Bonilla (again): A second deferred-contract plan with the Mets and Orioles pays him $500,000 a year for 25 years. Those payments began in 2004.

• Bret Saberhagen: Will receive $250,000 a year from the Mets for 25 years (payments also began in 2004; this was the inspiration for Bonilla's deal).

• Max Scherzer: Will receive $105 million total from the Nationals that will be paid out through 2028.

• Manny Ramírez: Will collect $24.2 million total from the Red Sox through 2026.

• Ken Griffey Jr.: Will receive $3.59 million from the Reds every year through 2024 as the deferral from his nine-year, $116 million deal signed in 2000.

• Todd Helton: Will get $1.3 million from the Rockies every year through 2023 as the result of $13 million deferred when he signed a two-year extension in 2010.

Those American Express bills are a pain in the ass.

This is notably missing Chris Davis. The Orioles are paying him $17 million per year until 2037.

The notable list is missing someone notable? Damn that espn!

And Chris Davis might also qualify as one of the biggest busts in baseball. At least top 20 or 25.

There were a few years that he absolutely raked. One of those was the year I lived in Baltimore, and it was amazing watching Crush Davis just absolutely murder baseballs.

Then his therapeutic use exemption for Adderall expired and he didn't renew it, he pissed hot and he was never the same.

But he will forever own for convincing then-Baltimore GM Dan Duquette to bid against himself in 2016 (suggesting that there was a ~mystery team~ out there that was ready to go to seven years on him), making Duquette panic and tack on a seventh year and another $21 million onto his contract.

Because fuck Dan Duquette and I hated watching him systematically destroy a really, really good Orioles team that Andy MacPhail built.

Everyone who gets a nine-figure contract eventually becomes not worth it, but you're hoping it's near the end and not early on or from the get go (Carl Crawford, Anthony Rendon). Still don't understand giving Kris Bryant all that money.

I mean, Bryant was a rookie of the year and then the NL MVP in consecutive seasons. I don't think anyone expected his back to completely crumble to dust, and then to develop plantar fasciitis in his foot. (And, unfortunately, that's a degenerative condition that gets worse, not better.)

And unfortunately, I can't even say that his poor numbers this year are a result of bad luck; his BABIP on the season is .298, and the league average BABIP in 2023 is .297, so he's right in line there. His power is just completely gone because of his back and wrist and foot injuries. When your slugging is 130 points below your career average, you have a serious power problem.

Also, I hope he doesn't get randomly drug-tested. I didn't realize how utterly jacked he is:

Sammy's bats were also 'juiced' He got caught red handed on the field when the rubber balls fell outta the cracked bat.

What the fuck does Sammy Sosa have to do with the price of tea in China, when the talk was about Ohtani's physique and moonshot home runs?

There are ass-holes in every crowd that turn to group-think, one example that I hate is the fuckin' 'Wave'.

How the fuck does doing the wave make one an asshole?
