Is it theorically possible to keep a Caitian/Ferasan on your starship as a pet?

I don't think the answer to this question would be any different than to 'is it theoretically possible to keep a human as a pet?' (from whatever angle you'd like to consider that question). These are supposed to be sapients, after all.

Caitians are considered sentient species which are Warp capable and technologically advanced (within Trek)... so, no, you can't 'keep' them as a 'pet'... if anything they'd consider this incredibly insulting/debasing - and I don't think any human in Trek would want to treat them like this.

Felines/cats from Earth are yet another type of animal - humans are also considered animals... however, its been stated by science that non-human animals are indeed sentient.
The only differences are in our ability to communicate, levels of technology and recognition of animal rights (of which there are very little to none currently in the real world).

If we develop technology to successfully communicate with non-human animals and animal rights are pushed forward, its unlikely most people would consider dogs, cats and other species as potential 'pets'.
In fact, 'animal companion' is a far less insulting term which is currently used by many (vegans included - of which I am mysefl too) and non - human animals in this category are basically treated pretty much the same as any other companions you may have in the home (human or not).
