Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

Hmm... I don't trust Sony's live-action division to make a good Spider-Man movie unless Marvel Studios is in creative control (and even then, I find the MCU Spidey movies mediocre). But the article vaguely implies that the Spider-Verse creators would be involved in the Miles movie, so maybe there's a chance.

I don't know.. I mean, I'm sure it will be fine. But a big part of why I love the Spider-Verse is the look and feel of the animation. It stands out and does things you really can't get from live action.

It’s a very meandering string of skits (though the one it opens on is brilliant) and an over-reliance on Easter eggs and cameos. Overly meta in more than one place. It’s also overly long (and I don’t often say that about movies at all - but the pace in this is a mess).

The end of the movie (can’t say climax because there isn’t one) is so belaboured you’re left wishing they’d just get on with it because they string it out soooooo long they lampshade the lampshade they put on the cliffhanger.

Just rewatched Into the Spider-Verse (for the umpteenth time, I love the film so damn much) and I was reminded of a lingering question I've had since my first viewing: The nature of the Alchemax spider that bit Miles.

The initial implication is that it was potentially an escaped experiment of Liv's. However, the fact that it kept glitching, like all of the Spider Folk did because they were in the wrong universe, suggests that it, too, came from another universe during one of the earlier parallel universe collider tests.

Which leaves me wondering whether we'll learn more about that spider in Across. Especially considering Alchemax was originally introduced in Marvel Comics via Spider-Man 2099.

The article also mentions an animated Spider-Woman, and mentions Hailey Steinfeld being up for more Gwen, which makes me think it might be a Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider rather than Spider-Woman movie.
And it just dawned on me that Steinfeld is has been playing two different Marvel characters at the same time, Gwen and Kate Bishop.

Which also happened with another Spider-Gwen voice actress, Dove Cameron, who played a character in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, although she wasn't a pre-existing comics character. (Also it wasn't quite at the same time, since her AoS gig aired in between her appearances as Gwen in two different animated continuities.)

Then there was Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor and Wally West at the same time. Probably others too, not counting the many voice actors who've played multiple characters in the same series.

I didn't realize that Justice League and Smallville overlapped, I thought JL was over by the time Smallville started. And I forgot about Dove Cameron.

No; in fact, Justice League premiered exactly one month and one day after Smallville premiered, and Justice League Unlimited aired its finale only two days after the Smallville season 5 finale.

I'd love to have been in the meeting where they said, "Now I know that he's supposed to be a normal (albeit super pumped) man but what if he was bitten by a lion that gives him superpowers instead?"

The action in the trailer looked better then I expected. I'm sure the movie will still be terrible, but maybe at least a bit fun in a shlocky action kind of way, which is more then I can say about Morbius, which was mostly just boring. If only Venom 2 had been allowed to have R Rated violence like Kraven has, it might have almost approached a decent film.
