What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

It's been a long road, getting from there to here...

I think it's awesome that this thread has gone 700 pages. It's one of my favorite places on the entire BBS.
That's not controversial.

I understood the other 3 but not this one.
"Stands on" - Emphasizes. There's an exchange with Spock and Scott to make sure we know that Spock's mom was human (and that Puppet Balok reminds him of his dad).

You can all feel better about my comment. Karma has done it's job. I've had "Faith of the Heart" running through my head all day!
Take two Gilligan's Islands and see if that clears up. (Lost in Space? Green Acres?)

Yes, dear. *patpat* Good boy. :D

I'm not sure I agree, but an interesting idea.

Yeah, no. Not even the top 20. Even Rod "I used to be a rocker but now I'm in one" Stewart can't save this piece of treacle.

Oh. It was written by Diane Warren? That explains it. :barf2:

The 4th video was super cool.

A bland song for a bland show?
Wow. I was snarky yesterday! My apologies to ENT fans. I'm sure when I get around to watching the show, the song will grow on me.

I know what "stands on" means. :p Thank you for clarifying what you meant. I see your point now.

I remember all the words to GI, and most of GE, but I can't for the life of me remember a LiS theme song. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't recall if I ever saw the original show.

I don't totally disagree.

Why do you think so?
For a few reasons. TNG has too many episodes that can be boiled down to "Deanna is assaulted in this one" or "The Soongs do some BS", and I'm just not interested in either of those. TNG also plays things very safe, with characters that are rarely impacted by the stories. So a combination of lots of skippable episodes + static characters might make it ideal television in the 80s, but I think Enterprise has aged so much better.

That said, I do love TNG. When it's on, it's on. But there's a single skippable episode of ENT, whereas there's around two seasons worth of TNG I could do without.

Continuity isn't difficult in so far as it provides the framework to tell the story. But, that isn't what is being talked about on fan forums like this. Fan continuity (for want of a better term) is folding books, and technical manuals, and other ancillary materials that combine to form a perception of uniformity that isn't entirely there if one only watches the shows.

The other side of the continuity coin is the simple fact that this art. Artists do not go in to art just replicate what other artists have done. This is not archelogy or sociology or forensics trying to recreate down to the minutest of details. In short, fans come at it a bit like Captain Holt does in model trains:

while artists focus on the ability to provide a different twist to something familiar. It's a balancing act and details often get ignored because, well, it's not fun, or the writers were not aware of that detail.

I love the theme. Less so the up-tempo Season 3 and 4 remix. But if you don't like "Faith of the Heart" there's always "Archer's Theme."

Tom Paris became a morale officer for Starfleet upon Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant? A top-notch pilot, starship designer and medical assistant became a morale officer? Tom might as well tell Starfleet to kiss his ass and become a private starship designer or an author. Instead of . . . morale officer. Good grief!

Seems to be more than that. Sounds like he's on some sort of "goodwill tour". Which militaries often do with returning heroes.

Tom was also given a second chance by Janeway, and it proved a good bet because he became a valuable asset to the crew. And Tom Paris is a very socialable guy, so he is a good choice for a good will tour.
