What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

My screen was a bit too bright, and I haven't removed my eyeballs yet. (My phrase for taking out my contacts, which I'll be doing in a few minutes.)
Funny story: my best friend in college confused her younger sister a lot as she couldn't figure out what she meant by "putting her eyes in" and then repeatedly poking herself in the eye in the bathroom to get her contacts in before school ;)

Better than my uncle who has a prosthetic eye that occasionally fell out at family dinners ;)
I will make a point of never going near your family or friends. Need to keep an eye out for them.

I adore "The Empath" so I know that makes me the oddball in your average crowd of Trekkies.

There's actually a lot to like about "THE EMPATH".

It was possibly the best illustration of the brotherhood of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. It had a really creepy atmosphere with the total blackness and minimal sets. It was a really interesting concept overall.

For an episode set almost entirely "indoors" in a sparse set, "The Empath" has some of the most interesting planetary set "outdoor" footage in TOS.

Full disclosure - I think "The Empath" mostly blows. Its main problem is that its story is very thin,* and worse, it drags and drags. But I did manage to say something positive about it! :)

Also, Hays is very good, as are the guys playing the Vians (Sage and Bergmann).

* - It could have worked better as a half-hour episode.

Oh, it's got a long reputation of being one of the boring, cheap ones from Season 3. Those people are WRONG, but...still!
I've usually heard it (along with Spectre of the Gun) described as the best cost cutting in season 3. I'd rather see a minimalist set (especially one that is justified by plot) than an empty Enterprise (unless, again, dictated by plot).

I also think the people who don't like Day of the Dove are nuts. So what do I know?

The Empath is one of my all-time favorite TOS episodes.

I always loved most of the classics (CotEoF, BoT, TNT, etc) but on rewatching the entire series in order, there were three other episodes which I had completely forgotten even existed that really stood out massively to me: The Corbomite Maneuver, This Side of Paradise, and The Empath.
