Paramount apparently still doesn't get it...

Hmmm but that's kinda ambiguous then, could be the Disco era of the earlier seasons, or those of the later seasons...
The press release for the show also mentioned that Starfleet Academy has reopened "for the first time in over a century" which was interpreted by many to 32nd century. This combined with Matalas's comment about it being in the Disco era make it pretty clear it's supposed to be in the 32nd century.

The Academy series was already green-lit before the streaming numbers came in for the 3rd season. They'll likely do a Legacy series. The sad part is that it might not come out until 2025.
If the writers don't go on strike.
I would suggest that the producers already have a rough outline of the new series, main characters overall mission etc. I doubt they have more than 1 episode fully scripted, and with a potential months long strike in the works I could see a release date being pushed into 2026.
Biggest issue is where to film. Would any of the legacy cast be willing to relocate to Toronto for multiple seasons of TV?

DSC was cancelled because it was too expensive, and if you cut too much down, it wouldn't really be Discovery anymore.
Not sure how accurate that was. While a 6th season was always possible, the damage to the network and filming schedules caused by COVID and to the 4th season - which definitely could have been trimmed down one or two episodes - meant that wrapping it up in S5 was the smarter choice. Cost always plays a role but I don't think it was the final or biggest piece of the puzzle.

Funny enough, I always suspected the writers of DISCO chose the 32nd century by simply flipping 23rd. Even though the same effect of everything could have been done anytime after PICARD's era... could easily have been the 26th, 27th, etc.
Imagine if they flipped the digits around 24th or 25th century to 42nd or 52nd century.

Imagine what UFP would look like then =D

Nice. I hope Tilly will have a role in it.

I consider the DISCOVERY future to be horrible and unwatchable, so this is the perspective of a "hater"... but, my conspiracy theory / educated guess is they picked the date based off the furthest VGR with "Relativity" and ENT with Daniels had already established about the far future just to be clear of all us canon-violation nitpickers, and have a truly free hand to play around with.

Oh, I am certain that was it. I was just making a sort of joke.

Now that you mention Daniels and the Temporal Cold War...

I always thought that would have been a better reason for The Burn that what we got. Too many factions playing hell with time... the galaxy basically says, "Screw you all, I've had it with your ridiculous time meddling."

Biggest issue is making sure they put light bulbs in the budget.

Given the state of things in the 32nd century? My guess is it would have been the same with virtually little to no actual advancement or change.

The differences in practical tech between the 22nd and 32nd centuries are minimal.
