They already closed them in Canada. Funny thing is, we had one open up where I live, right as the pandemic hit, which can't have been great timing. About roughly 2 years later and the chain was being closed throughout Canada.

Won't miss them.

I've shopped them a couple times but the sky high prices kept me from ever taking anything to the checkout. I could get comparable items elsewhere for less so why would I waste money.

They were a boutique store. And with inflation rampant, people can't afford luxuries like that anymore.

They used to have pretty good stuff at a reasonable price but then the prices got higher and higher. They used to have a great selection of affordable bedding

It's a shame, though. They were a great place for all your home needs; we registered there for our wedding and got lots of really nice gifts from there. But this year, we went in to the nearest shop--which is still a bit of a drive--and left with nothing but some hangers. Everything else just seemed too overpriced.

And I just got a Bed, Bath & Beyond coupon in the mail today. :vulcan:

Maybe it's about having too narrow a concept. There was also Linens & Things, they went OOB in 2008 as far as brick & mortar stores go. They seem to be running an online store (if it's even the same company).

That, too. Going into the fray, to peruse empty shelves. Ugh.
Back in the 90's, one of the shorter lived home improvement stores (Høm?)I didn't even know existed was going OOB. I happened to be going by and managed to get a nice 50' HD extension cord and a few other items for 80% off. But, yeah, mostly empty shelves.

I had better luck when I was working at a Home Depot and knew when items were being clearanced to $1 or something similar.

Does this mean The Container Store is next?
Some of Bed, Bath, & Beyond's downfall started back in 2004 when they did a $11.8 billion dollar stock buyback. Back in February of 2022, they spent $230 million on their own shares during a three-month period.

That, too. Going into the fray, to peruse empty shelves. Ugh.

That pretty much describes Target's launch in Canada which became one of the worst launches in retail history. Launched in 2013, by 2015 they were shut down. Lack of good market research, many bare shelves, lack of good stock, higher prices, inventory issues stemming from a different piece of software they were using compared to their American Counterpart. It all added up to them being out of their depths.
