Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Soooo you can do brightly lite TNG bridge and it would look cool on a modern TV show?

You don't have to do pitch black discovery and stargazer bridges?

Huh who knew

I think the Ent-D bridge excitement will last about as long as people thought PT Cruisers were nifty, 20 years ago.
My dad loved his. Even had a stick. Think the only car he owned he liked more was his 68 ‘Cuda. Been restoring one for a few years (his first one was his first brand new car).

Picard Season 2 was to a large extent filmed with Cooke Anamorphic lenses, does anyone know what they used on Season 3, especially for the wide angle shots in the D bridge?

Don't get me wrong, I liked season 1 and 2 but doesn't season 2 feel like a really depressing version of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home? It felt like it took itself much more seriously than it should've. Star Trek IV felt fun and lighthearted. Picard season 2 felt as if they were really trying hard to capture the spirit of ST IV with some humorous moments (like the street punk dude in the bus played by the same actor from ST IV) but the whole thing ended up feeling cynical. I think part of that, IMO, is the time period they chose when going back in time because even though at the end the heroes save the day and the timeline gets restored we all know that soon after World War III will start so their victory feels bittersweet.

But does it actually look *good* or do we just like it because it makes us feel warm or fuzzy?

I can't be objective on that, and I doubt anyone else here can.

Also, the whole reason for going back in time was because Q transported them to an alternate timeline, saving them from being destroyed in the Stargazer explosion. And Q's reasoning was to help Picard finally deal with his mother's suicide when he was a child.

Season 2 was a convoluted mess, but I loved seeing Q again. Season 3 is worse. Hardly any Q. ;) Season 1 has the easiest plot to follow, and was actually dealing with issues beyond Picard himself.

Yeah, that was probably Mr. Stinky Pants. He was quite insistent that anything post-gene death was not Star Trek. He also considered Star Trek TOS to TMP to be pure Star Trek with anything after TMP more like Star Trek "lite".

Including TNG? :shifty:

The Enterprise-D and E bridges have always stood out to me because they’re the only ones that aren’t based in grays and blacks. It’s like Starfleet only went with the option for brown leather interiors twice.

The Discovery's bridge is bronze.

But otherwise, I agree with your point.

Seems like once they changed the Titan-A to the Enterprise-G, the interior color scheme was repainted to copper. "Let's ignore what the F did because it was a Fail, and go back to something along the lines of the D and E style!"

He hated TNG. He called it "Roddenberry's Revenge" (since the films were taken away from GR). He views TMP as Gene's Definitive Star Trek, TOS as its roots, and TNG as Gene's weaker, "later years" project.

I feel a similar way actually, in that regard. During TOS, when Gene Roddenberry was first creating it, they were making it up as they went along. TMP was after all of TOS had been made, there was a decade to reflect on it, and Star Trek had an actual budget. Early-TNG is where Gene Roddenberry let his idea of what Star Trek should be get in the way of the actual execution of it. Which is why I think TNG became better after he wasn't as involved.

Nothing controversial about THAT!

Wow. That's very well put.
