Spoilers The thing in bay 12

Indeed. The people matter not the color of the stupid carpet.
True, but the current season seems to indicate that some fans sure do appreciate it when the people making the show take the time to get the carpet right.

The amount of comments around the internet from people talking about being grateful and in tears from seeing the Enterprise again looking exactly like she once was is proof of that.

Now imagine the reaction if they had Discovery-ized the Enterprise-D because they felt the need to re-conceptualize her for modern audiences.

The thing is, there ARE seats, which early on on ST: TNG[, we did see her sit on. Two backless seats -- one on each side. Also, each Ops station has a pull out chair that looks like paneling; we've seen Geordi pull them out before and sit down.

There's no reason for her to stand there.

The extra seats haven't been there since season 1. There are tiny little shelves you could perch on if you have a little triangular bottom.

She could sit at one of the pull out seats at the back, but then we wouldn't be able to see her.

She quite often stood there, next to Worf, when she needed to be on the bridge. e.g. in Cause and Effect.

It's just a doctor thing. Bones used to just hang out by the railing behind Kirk. The Doctor and Neelix stood around like spare parts most of the time.

Bashir usually had a seat on the Defiant though.

See previous post:
They are just the tiny supports. They sometimes had additional little seats in season one, but they disappeared later on. You'd really struggle to sit there with any degree of comfort.

e.g. Hide and Q

vs The Pegasus

and finally Vox

I have a vague memory that there is one later episode where they add a kind of booster seat so someone can sit there, but can't remember which.

I'm not the target audience so I will not comment my reaction.

Sure, but that's sending the wrong message to the production team. The story doesn't matter as long as you get the carpet right. And I know that many will take that as hyperbole, but that's what this tear fest will teach.

It just works oh so well.

That said, the Excelsior definitely should be bumped up in size. As someone who is currently building a model of the bloody thing, I can say, without a doubt, that the bridge module is far too small for its stated size.

You can say I'm weirdo but to me the most beautiful and impressive version of the Enterprise-D ship is the one from season 1 of Picard. Man it looks so real and metallic:

And this is from the last episode:

The bottom pic is reminiscent of TOS-R's quality. Not the best shadow detail/contrast, but other shots made up for it.

To contrast (snarf), the top photo is too tinny. I look at it and an image of sardines popping out and singing songs come to mind, don't ask why or how, they just do.

I wonder if they went a little cheaper since the sales weren't as expected? The seasons wes kind of expensive when they first came out, I bet they would have sold three times as many at half the price.

Season 3 had the same level of detail put in. Season 2 was meant to be of comparable quality and expedited for release given how many people were itching to get the whole series out sooner rather than later, but got screwed up. (As had season 4's work.) I think fans, including myself, were overly nitpicky - but it's understandable.

I also agree; by now the sales surely would have caught up. Early adoption would be MSRP, with prices going down and more people snapping it up then.

That said, MSRP for the blu-rays were lower than the DVDs in 2001 and the blu-rays had not just a lot more VAM (documentaries, etc) but all that restoration work done. Even if the blu-rays had cost $129 per disc, we all would have gotten a spectacular deal. That's one reason why I was an early adopter at the $69~$89 price.

Yeah I always liked a 600m Excelsior, which a couple of TNG episodes hint at. Works much better with a 450m Connie whilst still being much less massive than the newer Ambassador and Galaxy cruisers. And it makes the Sovereign a very natural successor.

It also answers the question about proportion, it's exact.

I guess time changes perception for the actors..the ramps were indeed always that steep
I thought they were kinda joking about the ramp being steep. But if you rewatch the bridge scene, when Data asks Geordi if he’s sure the Enterprise is not connected to Starfleet’s mainframe, Marina Sirtis is walking down the ramp behind him. And it looks like she’s judging every step carefully.

I guess the only issue I have is when that comparison is made..McCoys "my god that's a big ship" in TUC doesn't make much sense given that Excelsior is actually not th at much better, just longer, than Enterprise.

What I mean by wasting it is actually blowing it the fuck up ala Generations..kind of I guess lol.
I mean...it's already come back so it's not really a waste like that, right? I mean the outpouring of emotions, people having that nostalgic vibe, and loving the togetherness speechifying. Seems to me we could call this a success and hang up a banner that says "Mission accomplished and Happy Picard Day!"
They've had offers. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up at the Ticonderoga Star Trek Tour.
It would be wise to consider such an offer.

I wonder if this might be a little deceiving since we’re seeing both from the side.

My memory of the last scenes from TUC was that when both the Enterprise and Excelsior are shown from the back, the Excelsior is much much wider than the Enterprise.

There was another ship in the last scenes of TUC?

;)

About the rebuilt bridge, apparently it was stupid expensive and the timeframe was really tight. I do hope this means they'll re-use it or at least not waste the fucking thing this time. It's apparently been disassembled but is 100% complete in the Trek archives warehouse

That set was used for 7+ years before they blew it up in Generations. I wouldn't call that "wasting it."
