Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Went to put something in the bin and suddenly felt this tearing sensation in my back just a little higher than my left hip. Wondering if anyone else has had similar could this be a pinched sciatica nerve?

Doesn't happen as much as it used to but I am finding sudden movements or random day to day things seem to set it off this week and I have not changed my routines that much.

Also because of this I'm now feeling a bit down in the dumps because I was hoping for a nice week this week going out of the house doing things. Fingers crossed I am able to do something tomorrow.

every so often Youtube drops some knowledge on you.
This is a twofer..
I randomly just learned when talking about the speed of a boat why it's called knots and not mph.

Back in the age of sail, to determine the speed of the ship they took a log, and tied a long rope around it.
The rope had knots tied in it at specific lengths apart. They throw the log over board and turned an hourglass over.
Then they counted how many knots went through their hand until the hourglass run out.
And then they would write down how many knots in the logbook..... the logbook...

Yeah, that's the one that really gets me, I just don't understand how people can raise their own meat animals and kill them themselves and eat there. There is just no way I could ever raise and without getting too attached to kill it. At least if you sell off at auction or something like that, you can kind of just put it out of your mind, but you can't do it all yourself.

For a long time, I never really thought about cows and chickens and animals like that having emotions and personalities, but seeing videos like this

really made me reconsider. I had actually already been starting to feel a little guilty about eating meat, but these kind of videos really pushed me farther in that direction.

I know they have emotions and personalities, but I don’t see that as being the same as having an abstract sense of self and being able to reason outside the context of their instinctual drives. To see their defenseless prey and have any other considerations than “I’m hungry”. That’s where I see the essence of sapience.

But I do respect the people who hunt their own food, first because those animals suffer much less than factory animals, but also because if you’re going to eat animals you should be willing to look directly at how the meat is made.

Tearing? You might want to get that checked.

Not literal tearing as such. I suspect the pain running down the nerve as I could feel it moving from one spot to my leg probably the sciatica nerve but I could feel the pain moving in that instance. I am feeling much better now but still not at my usual bubbly self just yet. Hoping next week I will be able to go out and do stuff.

There's a special brace for the knee that can help with sciatica.

I know but I am not that bad yet. I go through these periods where I have 2 or 3 really great weeks then doing something stupid like emptying the bins or something will set the pain off and then that ruins it for another week or so.

Fair I guess but why wait until it's worse?

I know...... Also I went out walking today to the main road to get the bus into town thinking I'd go out but made it that far to turn back home because while my back felt better I could feel the joint in my hip moving like the ball part moving as I walked. That was a new kind of feeling, and I've never had that happen so decided to turn back and home now and now all that uncomfortable feeling is gone. Was kind of looking forward to going out.

Maybe your hips are out of alignment?

Haha possibly I have no idea. I have had xrays and scans and none of them have actually answered any of my concerns. All I know is that there might be arthritis in my lower lumbar spine. I've never found an answer to any of the stuff that has happened to me in the last few years apart from the arthritis thing.

Has anyone here had a hip replacement? What's the recovery time like?

My dad did. It was about 8 weeks and a lot of PT.

My wife's hips will go out of alignment and she'll have me take a broom stick and she will lay on the bed and hook her knees on it and I'll gently tug to try and realign her hips.

There are places here advertising for that kind of surgery and the ads almost saying it is like day surgery where you go home right away
