The Kelvin Timeline Starship Thread

I feel the updated Klingon D7/K't'inga deserves a little love. Granted, it doesn't appear to be much more then adding additional weapon to the classic look, even that makes sense.

Starfleet was certainly changed by the loss of the Kelvin. Ships were increased in size, and if the Vengeance shows us anything it's that weapon development was definitely bumped up.

The Klingons, in response, would definitely up the armaments of their ships in order to counter the increased threat from Starfleet.

There's also the whole thing about them being in possession of the Narada for a few decades. God knows what they pulled from it, technology wise.

I forgot all about that one, and I have the model of it and counted the days until it arrived:lol:

It is literally just the K'Tinga from TMP with bolt-ons according to the Eaglemoss magazine, and then scaled up to match the rest of the Kelvinverse fleet. But I think it's the ultimate version of the ship, better than the originals and superior to the Discovery version. They made it perfect.

I think the neck looks too busy, but otherwise it's very nice.

As an aside, who knew that Starfleet ships would look so nice in red!

To be honest, I always saw the Franklin and their uniforms as another "visual reboot" of the NX-class and their uniforms.

Although with modern Trek's total uniform spam, they fit in easily enough:lol:
When I saw Beyond in the cinema way back when, I basically assumed that the Franklin was meant to be an NX class ship, but fell foul of the “at least 20% different for legal reasons” rules.

Lovely vid. Seems like a good opportunity to bring up the Enterprise-A.

I've honestly never been able to entirely pinpoint what is is I disliked about the Enterprise-A, as seen in Beyond. I think it's mostly how the Nacelles link to the pylons, and the fantail of the engineering hull.

That said, certain parts of it are growing on me. I think if you were to take the best parts of both JJ Enterprises, you'd really have yourself a beautiful ship.

Imagine the saucer, neck, and forward secondary hull of the Ent-A, mixed with the aft secondary hull, pylons and Nacelles of the original....

SORRY FOR THIS LONG-ASS POST!

I agree, AstralSapphire's USS Eclipse Minecraft build is in that school of thought with the Ent-A saucer, original everything else except smaller but longer nacelles and pylons spaced further apart.

I really like this design; proportionally, it looks great and it reminds me of Ryan Church's actual Enterprise design, which I guess I'll talk about...

This is actually my favourite Enterprise design, proportionally, it's perfect to me. It has the fast, hot rod look that Abrams was after without oversized and squeezed together nacelles; saucer has the sharp angle edge like in TOS and on the Kelvin Ent-A; hull detailing is more TOS than Refit; I like the area around the deflector dish where you can see the mechanised/industrial workings of this starship poking out of its clean, smooth exterior; and I like its weird, organic look (I like the Ent-D for this same reason) that seems advanced and somewhat alien with the curves on the neck, rear of the pylons, and way the pylons curve out of the secondary hull giving the ship a cool retro sci-fi feel.

The idea of glowing nacelles when engaged was also neat.

Somewhat related to the starships, I really dig the Franklin uniforms. They're a perfect next step from the blue jumpsuits from Enterprise.

Between the Franklin uniforms and the Kelvin uniforms, I love that we have a genuine picture of what the very early Federation uniforms looked like.

Awesome! I plan on making these uniforms in Poser one day and hadn't seen any full body shots so this would be a good reference.

Ya know, looking at those pics just further cements it for me that the only thing a truly dislike about the "JJPrise" is how the deflector dish/forward secondary hull sticks out, beyond where it meets the neck, just a little too far.

Beyond that, I really do love the design.

Oddly, the thing I liked about it from the very first picture released was that the placement of the neck pylon relative to the nacelle pylons finally made sense structurally, in a way it hadn't before with those attached almost at opposite ends of the secondary hull. With the JJprise, you got a sense that everything tied together on the inside and made a unified whole; it was no longer just this bit glued onto a tube up here and those other bits glued on back there.

The TOS Enterprise secondary hull in front of the dorsal sticks out nearly as far, but I think the 09's smoother lines and proportionally skinnier hull makes it seem more prominent.

how long do you think it took to build the Enterprise-A?
