Spoilers Religion in the mirror universe

I took that as Mirror Paul just fucking with him, saying his worst fears aloud.
Probably, but I liked the idea that it was in fact a female God worshipped by most of the major religions in the MU, which is why Mirror Stamets defaulted to referring to God as "She." It's part of my head canon.

I have my doubts about this. Maybe christianity exists in the MU, as hinted at by Georgiou comparing Michael to an Archangel, but i guess it's not really big and there is another religion shared by most Terrans. Because there is talk about multible gods and the other things that are contrary to christian believes.

They also mentioned "christening" the Charon more than once, rather than "commissioning" or any other word. But agreed, their version of the faith is cultural at best, and the message twisted beyond recognition.

It's cool to see a discussion about religion in a sci-fi context. I'm not super familiar with the show you mentioned, but it sounds like the religion in the mirror universe is a mix of different beliefs and customs.

As a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Portland, our beliefs are rooted in Christianity and the teachings of Jesus. However, I think it's important to recognize and appreciate the diversity of religious practices in the world, even in a fictional universe. It's always fascinating to see how religion shapes cultures and societies. Cheers to more thought-provoking discussions like this!

Checks out.

All hail the Emperor. Long live the Empire.

You can find a lot of different stuff and sentiments in the bible. And given how many texts have been twisted beyond their supposed original meanings and contexts in our own history, I wouldn't be too surprised if the Mirror Universe would have largely had the same bible, just interpreted differently and with emphasis on different texts. Where the 'aggressive' portions of the Old Testament would have been held as fundamental. A Christ whose most important statement was 'Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.' Where a Pauline-derived theology teaches that spiritual battle is reflected in warfare on earth. And so on.

(* My point is not that these verses are twisted out of context, I know that, but that verses have been twisted out of context in our actual history to justify things, so I could see it happening in the Mirror universe with the same bible, too).

There is a bit in the novel Dark Mirror where Picard is posing as his mirror counterpart (This is in a version of the MU where the Terran Empire still exists) and snoops around the quarters...he finds a Mirror Bible, but gets queasy and chooses not to open it.

Thank God - pun intended - that he didn't open it.

Although, as I said, I think it's more likely that the Bible would simply be banned in Imperial territory and no religion other than Emperor-worship would be permitted. I guess it's possible that a senior officer like Picard would have enough clout to get ahold of a purloined copy, though I don't know why he'd want it.

religion as a means of controlling mores and beliefs of the population would work.
the mirror universe is goofy. it can't work with billions of people murdering each other to become assistant manager of McMurderdonald's , there has to be some cohesion. A state cult of the Emperor, as someone pointed out makes sense. It could be where the Emperor exemplifies the state, or world of Terra, itself. This doesn't mean there isn't room for small state approved cults, polytheistic or otherwise, as long as they pay their taxes and don't oppose the current order.
