Changelings

So we know they've evolved somewhat. They retain their shape after death and replicate internal organs and blood to make it harder to detect them..

But, we've yet to see a single one turn into anything other than humanoids

Has their improved humanoid mimicry cost them the ability to shift into inanimate objects?

And could these changes be a potential side effect of the cure for section 31s disease? Would explain why they're so pissy.

They're clearly trapped in some way, and seem to prefer humanoid form for the most part on this mission. Possibly an imposed side effect from floating head guy.

What if ‘Floating Head Guy’ just becomes another unexplained ‘Future Guy’ by the end of the series? Floating Head Guy could quite simply be a McGuffin.

Terry might leave some loose ends for his Legacy fan-fic if he doesn’t have enough episodes to wrap everything up neatly under that little proverbial ‘red bow’? He should have called the finale ‘Broken Bow’… oh, wait, hang on a second….

I must admit I hate this version of the "changelings". The depiction basically has nothing to do with the changelings - or rather the Founders - we saw in DS9, beyond superficial design similarities about the goo.

Like rewatch every scene with a Founder in DS9 and then watch this, and it just doesn't fit.

They are cool and all, but it just feels like a superficial spin on a piece of DS9

This is EXACTLY where I am leaning more and more with each episode, ever since DS9 I pondered a connection between Armus and The Founders. He can change his form but cannot mimic objects beyond their basic shape, he was cast off by his race so it would make sense he is someone reconnected with them ala hand talking.

He demonstrated more abilities than The Founders, he killed Tasha Yar with a wave of his hand, he had telekinesis and other abilities and none of these were shown to be Founder abilities. If he is reintegrated it would explain the trigger happy nature of Vadic shooting her own crew.

I wouldn't actually mind if he's a changeling/pah wraith (even if it's not Dukat). Definitely a lot of DS9 in that combination.

TO be fair, the 90s shows had inconsistencies with regards to the Changeling's too. For example, Odo was unable to perfectly mimic a human or Bajorian face, but could do most other wrinkly-faced random aliens just fine. And the founders could do human faces perfectly almost immediately (i.e. when the Female Founder impersonated Kira in the cave), but chose to adopt the "Odo appearance" as their default humanoid state, even in private. Even with blood tests failed with Martok and on Earth (albeit Martok was retconned to be changeling, and Jospeh Sisko gave the most likely explanation on how to pass a blood test). Internal sensors could pick up changelings... sometimes. Not other times. Sometimes it needed a phaser beam to disrupt.

It's really not any more inconsistent than before.

What is surprising from this week's episode is that Vadic's cohorts are also Changelings (implied by Matalas, but not stated directly in the show), and one vaporized another. That is also new. But I'm guessing this is just a case of us not having all the facts about their situation, or even if her crew are fellow changelings rather than random alien muscle.

There is a lot to answer. Who is in charge? Is it just the changelings and their boss or is there a larger confederacy of villians at work? Where did they get their ship?
