I expect the Gattaca show would be about a regular human uprising after being tired of being treated like second class citizens to the genetically engineered. Would be awesome if they could get Ethan Hawke or Jude Law back. Even Alan Arkin would be nice.

Netflix is ordering eight episode of Man on Fire -- which was a novel made into a Scott Glenn movie, then a Denzel Washington movie.

Ryan Coogler is developing The X-Files, but no one knows if it's a remake, continuation, spinoff or what.

Without Chris Carter then I am not a big fan. Heck even if they brought back people who worked on X-FIles I might be more excited. I heard that Vince Gilligan guy had some success after X-Files. He would be a exciting choice to bring back the show.

    Copied from the thread:

    Clickbait site is gonna clickbait.

Ryan Coogler talked to Carter about rebooting it. That's all. Pretty damn far from it happening. Nothing written. Nothing greenlit. No team in place.

The biggest problem with The X Files now is that in the 90's the conspiracy stuff was still fun. Now it's almost entirely alt right bull shit, and you can't do a longform multi season conspiracy drama pulling from real life without either directly rebuking stuff like Q Anon (which has combined pretty much all the old conspiracies under it's wing) or passively promoting it by not clearly and decisively debunking it.

The conspiracy stuff even had it's crazy element back then. Their is nothing wrong with conspiracies today and if anything they are more relevant. Between the twitter files and what happened to Epstein and Trump trying to steal a election, their is tons of shady stuff happening these days.

The alien stuff is what might not hold up anymore. The government has come out and admits stuff about UFO's and the public reaction was basically one big Meh! Any new show would need to put more focus on the monsters and crazy tech going wild. The second part of course takes you more into "Fringe" territory but it makes sense for a X-Files reboot as well.

Would be better if they focused on an entirely different class. Making it a reboot will just invite unfair comparisons to the movies, especially so soon after. It hasn't been that long ago. But I understand they have to milk this franchise dry, especially after the failure of the Fantastic Beasts movies.

I would take one as another class
    or even there kids,
How about one of the other schools??
If you want the keep the "Kids" and this era of the timline, you don't have to redo Harry's story.

but a complete redo after so little time, that has already been tread? It won't last 7 seasons.

I think the Fantastic Beasts failure is why they are going back to the books. The books are proven money makers. They're hoping the millenials who loved the books/movies are going to watch the new series with their kids, buying the books and OG movies again to read/watch with them, and bringing in a whole new generation of fans.

Edit:.Personally, I don't give a shit about Harry Potter but want to remind everyone that by the time this airs it will be 25 years since the first movie came out. In the world of reboots, that's forever. People born the year the last movie came out will be 14/15 when the first episode of the new series airs. The target 10-12 year olds will be up for a new version, and not complaining about how they just made one twice their lifespans ago. New franchise for a new generation. I don't doubt it will be a big hit.

Well yes, exactly. But at the same time, I do think they need to do something a bit different and not tread on what's already been done. It's a weird case because I feel the HP franchise has such a narrow scope, but they also have lots that could be potentially explored that isn't in the books. But redoing the movies as a series feels so much like chasing the goose that's laid the golden egg.

That's what I'm thinking. With other schools mentioned throughout the books, there's plenty to explore without retreading and still be in the Wizarding World. In fact, I'd love to see the different cultures and their take on their magic schools.

We're on our fifth live action movie Bruce Wayne in a decade. The guy now in charge is in charge because he famously gutted all quality programming and turned educational programming stations into cheap lowest common denominator. He cancelled entire movies for tax write off and pulled original content from his own streaming service because he thinks he can make more money selling them to Amazon. There is no interest in creativity, art, or quality, only shareholder value. And the books are proven money makers, while the only time they tried something else it failed, so more versions of the books is what we are going to keep on getting.

Third time's the charm for a Cruel Intentions TV show. After a scrapped Fox prequel series 20+ years ago with Amy Adams in the Sarah Michelle Gellar role that was recut, upped to a R-rating and repackaged as Cruel Intentions 2, and then an actual sequel 15+ years later with Sarah Michelle Gellar that NBC passed on, Amazon is making their own version now that will be its own thing and not tied to the original movie.
