Several times you've claimed sexism against the board members that have posted in this forum in various topics but I don't find it to be true. We all disagree on things, we criticize the show runners for missed character opportunities, we nitpick how many torpedoes they shot off, but I cannot recall one recent post that bashed Janeway because she was female. I would very much appreciate you stop dropping this particular nugget on topics in the future.

He broke the drink machine on the Cruise. I had to walk to deck 11 to fill my cup. :)

I'm glad she smacked him around. They abandoned the Starfleet/Maquis friction so quickly, I cherish any times they actually played with it somewhat. The way I see it, Janeway knew that for the merge to work, some...accommodations had to be made.

Yes. Some. As in, Torres is confined to quarters for a couple days and given a stern warning from both Janeway ("next time, it'll be the brig") and Chakotay ("do it again, I let Tuvok and the captain deal with you"), as opposed to court martialed for striking a superior, reduced to crewman, and thrown in the brig.

A lighter punishment for misconduct, fine. Rewarding it with a promotion, not.

My position on it is that it was a period of adjustment, and Janeway knew she needed the best person in charge of engineering. I daresay she hoped that the show of faith would help get Torres to fly a little straighter. And it worked.

Not a dick, but you're a murderer, since you triggered a terminal shame spiral.

    It's a no win situation.

I'll take Spongy over some other kid shows I've endured.

    That's an interesting theory.

Janeway needed to make a few political appointents so that no one snuck into her room at 3 am and strangled the Captain with her own bun.

I hypothesized earlier, that B'Elanna (to begin with) can keep the engine running when it's boring, handle an emergency, or pull a miracle out of her bum, but writing 120 crew evaluations, 3 duty shift reports, and one security evaluation per day, as well as making positive that every one knows when they are supposed to be working in engineering for the next month, a month in adance, is a level of buraracracy unheard of on the Val Jean, and would have overwhelmed the academy drop out.

B'Elanna was chief engineer, but Carey still did all her paperwork, so was she really chief engineer?

It would have taken Torres a few months of Star Fleet clerical courses on the holodeck to properly nail down her job, which we have no proof that she ever did.

I guess then that's why Scotty always inflated his estimates ... had to get his paperwork done first.

Which is why I'd have been Ok with B'Elanna being chosen... had she not assaulted Lt. Carey. Rewarding an assault on a colleague is not something I condone.

^ Perhaps that's what Harry should have done to finally get his promotion? Give Tuvok a good punch in the face after he made one too many critical remark somewhere around S3?

Torres was smart enough to programme a paperwork chat bot.

Might have worked. Or, Janeway might have summarily guillotined him. I mean, she wrecked his career with a reprimand just for a little romance, something no one else in Trek history even got lectured for. Clearly there were some double standards in place...

<Tuvok> Ensign, it does not become someone of your rank to question the Captain's reasoning openly on the bridge.
<Kim> Yesterday, you told me the sensor resolution of OPS was unacceptably low! The day before that, that my shoes weren't polished properly! <runs to Tuvok >
    <Kim> I <punch> have had <punch> ENOUGH! <punch> of this!
<Tuvok> Capwain, pewmiffion fo weave the bwidge fo go fo fickbay.
    <Janeway> Granted
<the moment the turbolift doors close behind Tuvok, the bridge erupts in cheers and applause>
<Janeway> Honestly, we didn't think you had it in you. Until now, Chakotay and I thought of you as a little shit, trying to weasle his way up. Today, you have shown you are a man after all. Welcome to the club, Lieutenant! Oh, and also, report to the brick, Unfortunately, I'll have to put you there for a week or two. Just protocol, you understand. I don't want to get into trouble the day Starfleet HQ learns of this and finds out you weren't disciplined for this. But your promotion stands!

In what fantasy land is Harry Kim going to successfully slug (and apparently subsequently seriously injure) a Vulcan?

Nowhere. I was just having a little fun with the thought.

That said, are there any scenes in VOY where we actually see Tuvok have superhuman strength? The only episode I can think of that perhaps might is Meld.

It's only kinda-sorta what you're after, but there's that bit in Rise when he catches a punch and then proceeds to put the pain on them by squeezing their fist 'til he's made his point.
