What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

The music is the perfect barometer of that.

Interesting, maybe.....
I'm not a musician but a bedroom guitar player for about 25 something years.
I don't usually pay very much attention to the music, that doesn't affect my opinion on an episode or something like that.
Good music can enhance a scene but if for some reason the music doesn't quite fit, I don't let it bother me.
Is that weird because I'm really into good music that I like but I don't really focus too much on music with other entertainment.

I can't remember if I've already said in this thread how much I like Captain Liam Shaw (he's one of my favorite Trek captains ever), but even if I've said it before, I don't care, because I just think he's totally cool. And I'm glad to see that #TeamShaw is trending.

And that's not a spoiler, so don't even go there.

Here's one for you.
Should Paramount rewrite every star trek script's outcome and allow people to gamble on what's going to happen?
Actually the WWE is exploring this concept

Uh...what? I don't watch wrestling so what the WWE is doing is of no concern to me.

But are you saying they should do a thing where they give the scripts to old episodes new endings (also in script form, I presume) and have people guess at those new endings in some sort of poll?
Or are you saying people should be voting on how current plotlines and stuff should be ending?

The first sounds a bit fun but also kinda pointless.
The second...No!

I have controversial opinions about everything but, here are a few from Trek.

1. Janeway is a complete hypocrite about the prime directive and gets way too self-righteous about ethics for someone who bends her own on a nearly constant basis. I love Kate Mulgrew and everything else about Janeway but, her decision making was terrible.

2. TOS, ENT, VOY reflect American imperialist values. TOS presents Starfleet and the federation as essentially Earth-based (Roddenberry had this criticism as well), and by "earth-based" it's really just American. Archer is like an unhinged US president for at least a season and a half.

3. Naomi Wildman is more annoying than Wesley Crusher.

4. I prefer the DS9 plot that develops rather than the episodic nature of TOS and TNG where everything is disconnected.

5. Ezri should have been a lesbian outside the mirror universe.

6. On that same note, I will forever believe that Garak and Bashir were definitely boning.

7. Kira and Odo were a stupid couple.

I agree with this one. By and large the shows I enjoy the most have some sort of connective tissue to them, even if it is the briefest of line drops.
I do like him. He's an abrasive pain in the ass but I'd prefer him as Captain of that ship right now over Picard.
I prefer him as captain.

I also view him as completely inappropriate in a 24th/25th century context.

It's an interesting juxtaposition.
I think that canon is only important for major events. For smaller things, especially one-off lines or tech only used in one episode, it's perfectly fine for writers to ignore canon for the sake of better telling.
Absolutely. Canon is about verisimilitude to me. If you can maintain it with me feeling like these stories can occur roughly the same way then it works.

I LOVE SHAW. I generally love all the captains (not Archer) but Shaw is my new all-time favourite because we have the same personality/issues.

Gambling is an addiction. It's also a mega billion dollar business that make poor people worse off. You see people sitting in front of slot machine for 8-10 hours at a sitting just to gamble.
Who thought sports betting would ever be allowed and grow into a $200 billion dollar industry? Kind of like every year an Elon Musk goes bankrupt.
The WWE is nothing but pre scripted outcomes and they are exploring if their matches could legally be bet on. think about the benefit to the streaming services carrying WWE's programing because I assume you would have to place your bet on the streaming service.Does Rey get un masked? Will the match get swerved? Will Billy turn baby face? I'd guess there are a lot of things you could bet on during a 10 minute match.
Where there's money there is money to pay people to support your position. sad but true. and betting on a wwe match is little different than betting on a sport, just another step down the rabbit hole.
If WWE and Sports entertainment pulls off betting on their production and you're Paramount thinking of getting a piece of that pie. It's just another bunny hop to allow betting on an unseen episode of star trek.
How many cups of coffee will Janeway drink? Does Spock get his real brain back?
my fav. Does Dr. Who take over the ship? Will Q stop him?
I don't like the idea of bringing gambling into the home but right now it's a legit issue on the radar.

...I'm sorry. Just thinking happy thoughts. Carry on :)

The 1990s were a good time to be a Trek fan!
In many ways the 70's and 80's were a better time to be a FAN. The 90's were when Paramount figured out that they could make money off of Star Trek and started cracking down on the crazy fan works that were flourishing and even finding their way into professional products. So many of the later paid creatives came from that culture.
