The Terry Matalas as Star Trek Showrunner Petition

They simply don't have the same confidence in the other creatives involved in Nu Trek (Goldsman, Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise, Chabon etc) and their divisive seasons.
I was first disturbed by this overt hero fixation you seem to have with him. Now you're pretending to know what "they" (presumably the creative team creating ST) think about him versus the others?! You're going too far.

And it's nonsensical too. If "they" already have more confidence in him, no petition is necessary.

I think it would be a good idea to take a break from this for a while to gain perspective. Just my opinion.

And it’s not all THAT different from what Paradise and Chabon have done. I’m sorry but it’s really not. At the end of the day: the characters used, the ships and the computer graphics are what’s different. If that’s what you like, great. Name it, stop holding Terry on a pedestal, enjoy what you’re getting and move on, hoping for something to continue what you’re loving with this. That’s what I did with SNW. But PIC season 3 not that much different than what’s come before. It’s unfortunate that that can’t be seen.
Even the ships and Okudagrams aren't all that different. I'm pretty sure if this season was written almost exactly the same, but with no TNG characters (Riker replaced with Rios, Worf with Elnor, etc.), most of the "the ship has been righted" folks would be singing a different tune.

Plus, so far, anyway, at least 80-85% of the story would remain intact.

Anything below 50k signatures is going to be pretty much ignored by the Paramount/CBS Exo's.

This would be lucky to even get 15K and that's not enough folks for them to pay attention.
If this fails then perhaps we can crowd fund for a Terry Matalas Star Trek series just like that one time when the fans here at TrekBBS and elsewhere tried to crowd fund Enterprise season 5. :)

The campaign may have better luck this time, especially if it has some big names behind it. :bolian:

... oh and that worked so well back then.

Mr. Matalas does not own Star Trek, so you'd just end up in the same boat with Alex Peters, attempting to go that route.

Do you really want to go there?

'They' was referring to the guys who made the Petition (The Popcast) who indeed have far more confidence in Terry than the others listed. Go re-read the initial post you quoted.

That's what happens when you only quote a section of what I wrote out of context. Basic reading comprehension skills are required.

Lol @ the people who liked your post as well. You know that we were talking about the Petition creators there.

It seems crazy to me that they wouldn't want Terry to do another show. He gets Trek far better than Michael Chabon or Akiva Goldsman.
They have SNW for other stuff, let Terry continue the 25th centaury in a new show.

The people running SNW should be in charge of everything for the foreseeable future. Including the goddamn movies.

Period, full stop.

Strange New Worlds has made a convincing argument that Trek is best served by going back to the Mission of the Week format that served Picard so well in middle-age. The conspiracy plots [in Picard season 3] aren’t inherently more interesting than what we got in this show’s first two seasons...

There's room for both serialized and episodic Trek.
Just as there's room for comedic and serious Trek.

It is not currently clear how much live-action Trek there in fact is "room for" in Paramount+ near-term financial planning. The safe guess would be two shows at most - SNW and another - and the second one likely wouldn't launch, at this point, until almost 2025 at the earliest.

His body of work is 40% complete. I don't give any one leeway like that, especially only 40% showing.
Yeah have we forgotten the stick the landing rule?

It's pushing you away, and perhaps the 3 others on here that regularly agree with you.

However, it's pretty effective at drawing in a ton of others.

It's a bit rich to argue numbers for a particular perspective from a newly-created account focused specifically on shilling Matalas' work. If the season was indeed so strong, there are plenty of existing accounts here to shout its praises and call for him to stay on.

Winning over some loud social media users says zero about wider appeal, and there's nothing to suggest this season is any more popular in terms of viewership than previous seasons despite the intended big draw of the TNG reunion.

Wellll…SNW is the best (certainly the Trekiest) of streaming era Trek and Goldsman has a major hand in its production, so perhaps we should be careful of casting aside people willy-nilly?

Like I said, you should take a break. You're lashing out now, insulting people left and right.
