Possibly the only good thing about Picard was showing that Seven and Chakotay did not stay together

True, especially if a person swings both ways. Through most of our history as a culture, and in many cultures today, it is far more convenient (and often safer) to be straight than gay. If you can find satisfaction with a partner of either sex, the implication is clear.

I think she's shifted into a lesbian since her return to Earth and when more of individual personhood emerged.

We've never seen Seven with a dude, so we don't know if she's 'L' or 'B'.

Yeah, yeah, the thing with Chakotay and all that, but that was when she was still fresh out of the collective. She probably didn't even know what a sexual preference WAS, let alone what kind she had.

I inagine it took months, perhaps even years, for Seven to work out her sexuality for herself.

Well, apparently Seven and Chakotay were intended to end up together in the evil Confederation future. I am glad that Robert Beltran did not come back for this, it would have been a character assassination of sorts. :techman:

I do not want to see legacy heroes coming back as twisted versions of themselves, but as the characters that we know and love with the extra baggage of a decade or so which can explain any changes to their character since we last saw them.

Because there is a lot of controversy about Seven and Chakotay’s relationship going back to its random origins in Human Error and sudden blossoming in Endgame. Having their ‘present day relationship’ be in an evil parallel universe in comparison to Seven’s Prime relationship with Raffi would not be appropriate for Seven/Chakotay shippers. I am not saying that I ship this either way btw.

If Chakotay was to return I would rather him be Seven’s friend if they cannot be together romantically for whatever reason, and for it to be prime Chakotay like in Prodigy. Of course, Chakotay is currently trapped in the 2450’s isn’t he, somewhere on Solum; probably a prisoner of the Vau N’Akat.

A future love triangle between Seven, Raffi and Chakotay is not out of the question though should he make it back to the early 2400’s. Though to be fair, Janeway may still have her eyes on Chakotay and I really do not want to see any cat fights in Star Trek.

In a similar vein. I wonder if Deanna and Worf will develop another spark this season seeing as the marriage between her and Riker seems to be a bit rocky at the moment? I honestly think that Worf would have remained celibate since Dax though perhaps his passion for Troi could change things? Or perhaps Worf even falls for Raffi as they get to know each other on their mission?

Terry does like his soap opera elements, so who knows…

That's not character assassination though...that's an alternate timeline. So, again...WHAT? :wtf:

It would have painted a bad picture of Chakotay as a character who a lot of people may not know of. Some people may not have seen an episode with him in for over 20 years if at all. Also, if Chakotay is in a children’s animation such as Prodigy it would not be a very good example of a person who Dal, Janeway and the gang need to rescue. Casual fans would maybe not be able to separate the two characters. First impressions. Evil Chakotay *may* have been shown in an alternate universe, but if a younger audience happened to get to know the character through this dark interpretation it would have put a cloud over the story arc of Prodigy don’t you think?

Also, is a Seven of Nine/Chakotay relationship now only consigned to an evil Confederation timeline?

No, it wouldn't have.

Yes, they would have. Don't sell the audience short.

No, no it's not.

The whole rationale to this makes zero sense to me. It's an alternate timeline, we see evil Picard, and the skulls of his enemy. Do people look at Picard, or Janeway in "Living Witness" and go "Oh, Janeway is evil now. I can't like her!" No. Evil duplicates is Trek's bread and butter going all the way back to TOS! Audiences are not stupid.

But in Picard season 2 we got to see both the dark and light sides of the important legacy characters.

If Chakotay would have been included as a character in both the prime timeline and in the dark Confederation timeline then the audience would have been able to differentiate between the two. However, I got the impression that we would only be seeing a dark version of Chakotay though, as in Penance we only got to see the dark version of Seven’s magistrate husband.

Imagine the magistrate played by Robert Beltran with no other context to his prime characters legacy as shown on screen in Picard season 2.

Delving even deeper, was the magistrate in Picard season 2 ever given a name? Perhaps he was *still* a recast Chakotay because Robert Beltran would not play the part… and we never knew it???

So ... two previously straight characters suddenly turning gay is supposed to be the best thing about Picard? Let me answer this in a no nonsense "Liam Shaw" voice: No.

Seven should be pansexual and gender blind as a result of her experience in the genderless Borg Collective. Seven could love anyone regardless of gender or species if she got to know them properly. A bit like Dax. :)
