Sometimes when people are assholes, people try even harder for their approval. It's weird.

I'm guessing it's a marketing thing – win over the loudest critics and generate buzz.

Hell, it worked on me. I was going to wait until Jammer reviewed the entire season to decide if I was going to watch it, but the advance buzz from people who hated the prior seasons got me on board with watching as it releases.

16. Terry took Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes out to launch and said that for "Seven Seconds", he wanted to do Crimson Tide, referring to these characters disagreeing on the Titan bridge. He thought that never happened on TNG.

17. Terry says it was a collaboration having the back-and-forth between him and the actors. He has a different perspective as a fan and vice-versa.

18. Terry had a feeling Worf and Raffi would "have great chemistry." He wanted to go back to Raffi working for Starfleet Intelligence. "That's an interesting idea to go back and explore." "The idea of playing good-cop/bad-cop with her being bad-cop, if we could pull that off with Worf, it would be really satisfying. Worf is the straight-man in that duo. We just felt it could work."

19. Regarding Worf, Terry says, "You want to do something new. It's been 20 years. But you don't want the character to change too much." Regarding the pacifist line in the trailer, "We just thought people would laugh!"

20. On Worf's white hair, Terry says, "We went Steve Martin and called it a day. He looks great!"

21. On bringing back the Dominion, Terry says, "The Changelings are incredible villains." "I really did like the Conspiracy Bugs. The problem is they kill their hosts. You'd never be able to have two of them. You'd never be able to have the paranoid thriller. And then the Changelings are just phenomenal and the backstory of how that ended, I don't want to give it away, but the end of the Dominion War is really messy. It gave you so much drama."

22. On what it's like watching Johathan Frakes direct himself, "Frakes his dauntless! He's tremendously energetic." "He loves the process! He loves people. He's a people-pleaser." "Every aspect of this is joyful for him. I don't know how he does it." "He manages to just be able to go back-and-forth with ease." "He's also ego-less." "I think the next episode, 304, is the best one he's done." "If you see how it's cut, it's very intricate. He didn't miss a single beat."

Now that most have seen the episode, Terry Matalas comes on to The Popcast to discuss this episode with The Critical Drinker, Dave Cullen, Nerdrotic, RMB, and a few other characters....This is like the version of 'Ready Room' from hell.
Done live no less! So many potential icebergs to navigate around. I like Terry and want him to succeed, so I admire him for engaging with critics. He probably didn't expect more people to join the panel after he entered as well.

Back in the late 1990's, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair employed the "sadism strategy" in dealing with the press. Get everything out, rip off the band aid, be prepared. I think more or less using that here was productive and effective.

Terry ends with saying, "I'd like to do more Star Trek, but it's entirely out of my hands. I know there's lots of Star Trek in the works, so it would have to fit in with that."

And Terry bows out of the chat.

Okay, I did it. I gave you all everything he said. Summed up or exact quotes.

Now I want to say three things:

First of all, you're very lucky you have me to do this. I hope you appreciate it.

Second of all, to all of you who don't like the people Terry was talking with, if that's the only reason you're not interested in listening to the podcast, then suck it up and listen to it anyway. What you think of them doesn't matter. Who gives a shit about them? No offense. What matters is what Terry has to say.

Third of all, to all you Terry-Trekkies out there who want to bash other New Trek, take a moment and seriously reflect on what he said about that. Thank you.

I'm glad I listened to the podcast. Again, if you only want to listen to the part Terry himself is in, just listen to the part he's in. Skip over everything else and tune out when he does, if it bothers you that much.

They always had their disagreements in the captain's ready room for the purposes of professionalism. Idea being nobody will have any confidence in the XO or Captain if they're always pulling a bitchfit at each other on the bridge. When its done in front of the crew, its awkward and leaves a sour taste in everyone's mouths.

Frakes has such a distinct, tight directing style you can usually spot his episodes from a mile off. This was definitely one of them.

What do you imagine Picard doing worse than Jack already having a criminal record at 21 and seemingly no degree higher than high school, I'm curious?

What does not having a degree have to do with anything?

Lots of people, including me, never went to university. It's not because of poor or absent parenting, or because I'm a lazy or bad person. It just wasn't right for me.

I've done alright in life without it.

It's not his usual "from above" God Shot, but that wide shot showing Beverly and Picard across sickbay from one another before their big conversation just seemed so very Frakes. He really does have a distinctive style.

I'm guessing that's in reference to me, given my username.

If Terry had said anything different in regards to Nu Trek, he would be burning bridges with his employers.

He did also say that those who were fans of the 90s-era material, for example, were underserved during the Nu Trek era and not given their 'flavor' of Trek. Picard S3 is all about mending that bridge.

We'll see if it turns out as great as RMB and his legion of doom suggest.

Ardra was able to change appearance which gets her bonus points from changelings, was an enemy long forgotten with a personal grudge against Picard.
We never learned her real name or what other name she goes by.
It works surprisingly well.
I said it as a joke, then I thought about it a bit more and it does work surprisingly well. You know the kind of tech that would really help her show off some magic to people, portal tech.

She also did huge amounts of research to play Ardra, the devil etc just as she has about shaw etc.

Until the reveal of the changeling on the Titan I was wondering how she knew so much about Shaw.
The research would be done while the Titan is on the way.
Changeling is tailing Picard, finds out about them boarding the Titan, gets there first, informs Vadic of that and provides a crew manifest.
Makes her appear to know more than she does.
The MO is certainly the same.

As much as I enjoy the Ardra theory, it still doesn't cover the season 1 episode which apparently gives too much of the game away. It'd certainly be a fun reveal if it was though.

Also yeah, that part of the interview certainly feels like the usual "I have to say this" spiel you hear a lot from people in Hollywood generally. Also backed up by his outright catering to 90s fans who, by this point, are likely in their 30s-50s and only really lightly served by other offerings such as Lower Decks.

Needs to be delivered by Jeffery Coombs in his Vorta makeup though.

Shame that Weyoun was on his last clone.
